[lace] An interesting Blog to read

2009-05-05 Thread pene piip

Dear Arachnean friends,

I would just like to share with you an interesting blog that I've been
reading for the past year.
The blogger is a 51 year-old American woman who lives in the south of
France loves antiques.

You can find it here: http://willows95988.typepad.com/tongue_cheek/
Her recent post for 4th May has a lovely photo of some of the old lace
that she collects,

but it is what she says that is also applicable to me.
I'm sure there are many others who have also followed their hearts.

When I have time I also read some of the lace blogs.
How about sharing on the list your favourite lace blog, if you read any.

Hugs from
Pene in Tartu, Estonia

[lace] New book by Rosemary Shepherd

2009-05-05 Thread pene piip

Dear fellow Arachneans,

I think some fellow lacemakers would be interested to hear about
a new book written self-published by Rosemary Shepherd. It is
being officially launched next week at the Power House Museum
in Sydney, Australia.

It is called An Early Lace Workbook more information can
be found at Rosemary's web-page: http://www.lacedaisypress.com.au/
http://www.lacedaisypress.com.au/pubs1.html

under Publications. I have a .pdf that Rosemary sent me which I
can forward onto anybody who would like to read about the book.

I'm looking forward to receiving a copy of the book soon.
Pene

That is awesome David! Done in about 3 months with other priorities in the
way. You amaze me. Can't wait to see it off the pillow. Equally grand I
am sure.

[lace] Lace making equipment? 19th Century on ebay

There's no scale, but I showed this to DH, and his immediate reaction was
the same as mine - studs for old -fashioned leather football (soccer) boots.

What will they come up with next as equipment for lacemaking?

Apologies if I misled anyone here - there is a typo. It's the UK Lace
Society that I'm referring to.

They must have overheard your conversation, Jean - the listing now describes
them as 19th century boot studs!

Great work David. Congratulations.

All those bobbins on your pillow, WOW. And I groan when I have 75 pairs on
my pillow. Guess I'll never get around to making such a big project.

Wonderful Work.

Learning to manage bobbins is one of the joys of lacemaking! I found
that when lots of bobbins are required, a larger pillow is definitely
advantageous. A 24 pillow gives you lots of room to work, with plenty
of space to stack bobbins out of the way. So... never say never...
just get a bigger pillow!! ; )

Super job, David! Funny... I had never been a fan of that mat before
but now I like it very much. I guess it's true that black is the most
elegant colour, suitable for every occasion :)
