[lace] Back from Spain

2010-10-31 Thread Laurie Waters
I got back from Spain last night - spent a wonderful afternoon on Friday
with Carolina de la Guardia at the lace museum in Arenys del Mar. I'll write
it up for LaceNews soon. I also learned a bit more about the felt Spanish
dolls, and did some revising of that posting.
Interesting thing happened on the plane going back. I was sitting next to a
woman who said she was the costume designer for a History Channel
"documentary" on how religion influenced the formation of America. It's
going to air in a few months, named something like "Fire and Hearts",
actually I didn't write it down. But the fire part is right. I gather they
are going to show a lot of people burning at the stake... Anyway, there's a
segment on Anne Boleyn. I told her to be sure not to dress her in any lace!
I told her a little about the early history of lace and when it actually
showed up in dress. So hopefully there's a chance they will get it right for
this production.

Anyway, I'm back to posting things on LaceNews tomorrow.

[lace] help with a pattern?

2010-10-31 Thread Nancy Neff
Has anyone worked pattern #23 from Nora Andries' pattern pack entitled "Onder
de
loep"?  I'm having some problems and hoped there might be someone out
there who
could help.

There are the usual occasional missing pin holes on
the diagram and such, like
almost any patterns out there. However, in one
section the pricking and the
diagram are seriously out of synch with each
other, and I'm at a loss to figure
out what needs to be fixed.

I've
enlarged the photo of the example lace and am trying to confirm the
diagram from that (and then change the pricking), but I am hoping that someone
has either already solved the puzzle, or could tell me an address for Ms.
Andries so I could ask her directly for some help.

Thanks in advance,
Nancy

WhoooOOOooo would have thought?!

I'm going to keep this in mind, dark lace motif on white lace grid,
back lit, to show the motif...hmm... good display idea. I might apply
it to a Christmas ornament :D

[lace] Happy Hallowe'en

2010-10-31 Thread Sue Babbs
I have only just remembered to upload these photos, so it will be too late for
some of you.

I spotted this piece of machine lace in a shop window in Ste Genevieve,
Missouri. It was hard to photograph because of the reflections in the shop
window, but it amused me to see that someone had created such a piece, and
hoped to sell it! I have never seen anything like it in England!

I just checked Holly Van Sciver's site, and she sells Londonderry linen.
Here is a link: <

No commercial connection. Just a frequent, satisfied customer.

Re: [lace] looking for thread

2010-10-31 Thread Beth Marshall
I believe Goldschild linen sold in Europe is the same product as Londonderry
linen sold in the US.
I'm sure at least one of the US lace suppliers stocks it, but can't remember
who.

I think the Londonderry linen described as "Ivory" is the 1/2 bleached, but
whether you get
Goldschild from Germany or Londonderry thread in the US, you may still not get
a good colour match -
1/2 bleached linen varies tremendously in colour from batch to batch.

Re: [lace] looking for thread

2010-10-31 Thread bev walker
Hi Tess and everyone

As it happens, the answer would interest me, our one supplier in
Canada for this thread is closing business. Maybe her successor will
carry it. In the meantime I recall that Goldschild is marketed as
Londonderry 'here' - a quick google pulled up quite a few sources of
Londonderry 50/3. Nordic Needle, for instance.

Should be ok?

Re: [lace] my new needlelace

2010-10-31 Thread La
Lorelei,
Your sun is beautiful!  I haven't worked anything quite as large, but now I'm
inspired.  I had a paisley piece that was only 2.5" x 6" that was on the edge
of tough to work the center. But, I was also trying to manipulate some
metallic thread in there, too.  Keep up the lovely work!

Can Goldschild thread be found in the US? I have started a torchon
mat and am afraid that the one spool of 50/3 1/2 white is not going to
be quite enough. I know it can be bought in Germany--that's probably
where I got it--but couldn't seem to find any listed here. I would
appreciate any ideas, probably privately, as I'm sure this one request
is not of interest to the whole list.

Thanks so much for any tips you might suggest.

Wow!Thank you for sharing you picture.
I never knew needlelace could be like that - so exciting!
And it looks such fun to do, too . . . I wonder if I could try it?
