[lace] Puncetto tutorial

2011-02-04 Thread catherine
It's just that this animation required over
800 hand-drawn keyframes!

Avital that is fantastic and such dedication! Thank you so much for sharing
with us all. I just wish I had a fraction of the technical skills that you
have acquired - modern technology is incredible (if one knows how to use it).

[lace] Foundling Museum in History magazine

2011-02-04 Thread Diana Smith
Yesterday I bought my copy of 'History' the English magazine produced by the
BBC.

http://www.historyextra.com/blog/february-issue-out-now-0

Included is a moving, but fascinating, article 'Mothers' tokens of love'
about items left by mothers when they were forced by poverty to hand over
their baby to the Foundling Hospital in London during the 18th century. They
would leave small items with the child very often this was a small scrap of
material from their clothing. These now form an incredible archive of
textiles of the time.

Some of these items now form an exhibition at the Foundling Hospital called
'Threads of feeling; The London Foundling Hospital's Textile Tokens,
1740-1770'. The expo runs until 6th March 2011.

I guess not strictly lace but I think most lacemakers also have an interest
in textiles.

RE: [lace] textile versions of Judith and Holofernes

2011-02-04 Thread Barbara Ballantyne
There is a panel of needlelace in the Lace Study Centre at the Powerhouse
Museum, Ultimo, Sydney (No A5335) depicting Judith and Holofernes.

Details are at

www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=183127

I hope this helps.

Subject: [lace] textile versions of Judith and Holofernes

I am researching a piece of lace depicting the story of Judith and
Holofernes and I wondered if anyone had seen other laces with this theme.
Also of
interest would be embroideries depicting a chronological progression of the

story as exists in the lace.
I know of laces showing Judith and Holofernes that are in the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Cooper-Hewitt, the V A (a lace picture), also one
depicted in the Subversive Stitch in the Fitzwilliam museum (a cutwork). I
have
been told there is one in St. Gallen and would be interested to hear more
about it.
Of particular interest would be discovering the source of the design.

2011-02-04 Thread Clay Blackwell
I had just read Devon's post about Judith and Holofernes lace when I
went to Netflix to check my queue. To my surprise, one of the films
recommended for me was One Night with The King, a 2006 film about
Judith and Holofernes. And, it's available for streaming, if anyone is
interested.
