[lace] Foundling Museum in History magazine
Yesterday I bought my copy of 'History' the English magazine produced by the BBC. http://www.historyextra.com/blog/february-issue-out-now-0 Included is a moving, but fascinating, article 'Mothers' tokens of love' about items left by mothers when they were forced by poverty to hand over their baby to the Foundling Hospital in London during the 18th century. They would leave small items with the child very often this was a small scrap of material from their clothing. These now form an incredible archive of textiles of the time. Some of these items now form an exhibition at the Foundling Hospital called 'Threads of feeling; The London Foundling Hospital's Textile Tokens, 1740-1770'. I had just read Devon's post about Judith and Holofernes lace when I went to Netflix to check my queue. To my surprise, one of the films recommended for me was One Night with The King, a 2006 film about Judith and Holofernes. And, it's available for streaming, if anyone is interested.
