[lace] Painting and wishing I was lacing
I have been spending lots of time painting in the last few weeks. Painting lace bobbins. I have a couple on ebay right now...one of them ending today which is a square bobbin. The other one is beaded up and bird in a cage Midland. But I do wish I was lacing instead. I won some nice bobbins in raffles when I attended the Lace Day event in Ithaca, New York. I keep looking at them wishing right now I could take the time to make some bobbin lace. I have much to do around my house also. Starting to feel the stress of it all. So much to do and so little time. Is that what the Mad Hatter said...I think that rabbit was reading my mind. Usually I made each one of my children a hand made Christmas ornament. Time is running out for that. But if I could find a day...where I am not sitting over my painting or something else I might make some dough art ornaments. I did that years ago and believe it or not...those same ornaments are on my tree this year. So do any of the rest of you feel kinda stressed out this year? Are you rushing to make that one Christmas gift? What are you working on...and lastly.lastlylastly... I CANT WAIT TO SEE ALL THE CHRISTMAS CARDS THAT WERE MADE FOR THE EXCHANGE...can you tell I am exited about seeing them...I CAN'T WAIT!! [lace] (Fwd) Query from David
David is currently without a computer, and has asked me to forward this to the list! Meanwhile, I hope I have helped him figure out how to get Arachne on his iPad, so he may be able to see your responses, and if not, email him directly! Clay Begin FWD: I'm enjoying so much the 2nd series of the TV series of The Paradise. My friends and I have been trying to work out exactly when it is set. I'm sure it's 1800s, but this week they mentioned a forth coming war with Japan which has thrown me and I don't know my 19th century Japanese wars. I understand that Emil Zola published thus book in 1883 so can only assume it's prior to that. There are some small bustles, but no hoops or crinolines. Can anyone help please. The costumes are just superb! David in Ballarat, Aus Sent from my iPad - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] (Fwd) Query from David
Hello Clay, David and everyone I had to look up The Paradise on the tv database, wasted time pleasantly, reading the 14 reviews then googled the book itself, to find that Zola had set Au Bonheur des Dames in mid-19th C. or so, after the innovation of the concept of the department store in Paris. The tv series set in Britain takes liberties with the original story though might follow the book's timeline - the department store owner Mouret was born in 1840; whatever age he is in the tv series could give an idea of the era? I would love to see a version set in Paris - the costumes would be lavish in the French manner! Asking to anyone, if *lace* has any part to play, will it be shown on sale over the counter? This would be the handmade laces produced by cottage workers, yes? Begin FWD: I'm enjoying so much the 2nd series of the TV series of The Paradise. Don't know about the TV series, but the original novel has a wonderful description of a display window of lace and yes, from what I remember of the lace types mentioned it would have been the genuine handmade laces... Re: [lace-chat] The Paradise
In answer to the query from David, via Clay, according to the internet Series I is set in 1875. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paradise_(TV_series) It is a good series and I have been enjoying it. Malvary in Ottawa where it is extremely cold. We had lots of snow yesterday and this afternoon it was -30c windchill which makes it very cold to shovel the snow from the end of the drive after the plough has gone by.
