Re: [lace] Bonham's lace auction 21st January 2014

2013-12-28 Thread Catherine Barley

Good morning Annette Jeri

Thank you for the link Annette and I've taken a quick look this morning. I
don't recognise any of the items as having been part of the Spriggs
collection but as I said earlier, I believed Dr Spriggs collection to be on
permanent loan to the School and not belonging to Susan herself. When the
school closed his collection was then moved to Rougemont House Exeter but
I'm not sure if it's still there.

The English Lace School at Rockbeare is where Marie and I first met all
those years ago and have remained friends ever since. I also telephoned
Roger yesterday afternoon but I guess he's probably spending Christmas with
his sons and grandchild, but will try again in a couple of days time. I
used to phone Susan every Sunday morning during her final weeks and she was
always so 'up beat' and incredibly brave. Both she and Roger worked
tirelessly to keep the school going and as Jeri said, it was quite a leap of
faith on their part to open a residential lace school. Students came from
all over the world and there was always such a warm welcome and homely
atmosphere at the school. Ah, happy days!

Fond Regards

Catherine

Hi Catherine and Jeri
Marie Laurie gave me the information re the sale. Marie had a Christmas
Card

from Roger, Susan's husband with the details of the auction in case she
wanted to view it online. Marie spent Christmas with us, so while she was
here, I searched Bonham's under the sale date Roger gave and then
'searched

within' for 'lace'. I came up with 5 pages of lace items: lot numbers are
between 309-355, some of which Marie recognised from her days of classes
at

the School.

I have made a tinyurl to the items I believe are from the Lace School,
part

of Susan's personal Collection.

[lace] [lace-chat] Christmas Exchange

2013-12-28 Thread Sue
Ditto to most of what Sue says below:-) Also my card and lace arrived at my
home this morning and is now proudly hanging on my red lace curtain amongst
all the other amazing pieces from various lace exchanges, so all in good
company and a pleasure to look at. She also added a card with an egg
pattern on for me to work in the future plus a couple of pieces of antique
lace so I will enjoy researching this a bit.
This is a job I love doing before christmas, hanging up my curtain and
adding all the lace pieces, remembering who sent them and trying to remember
which year (that bit I fail miserably at, LOL). I think I did my first
exchange in 2006 about a year after I joined Arachne.

Thanks to Janet and Sallie
So all the best to every one for 2014 and happy lace making.
