[lace] oh no

2014-01-30 Thread laceviolins_52
I remember a few weeks ago watching a demonstration on do a short row heel that
involved safety heels and another one that used bobby pins.argh I can't
find where I put it. Can anyone help me? please? It looked very easy and there
did not seem to be holes and no awful wraps. Thank you if you can

Re: [lace] Love in Bloom Valentine Patterns at www.LaceCurator.info

2014-01-30 Thread La
Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you so much for sharing these!  The patterns are great
and so timely.  The piece is lovely, and I love that you have popped out the
individual hearts. It's nice to see the individual motifs that make up a
larger design.

Keep inspiring and teaching us!

Thank you, Louise. But Therese de Dillmont (who died in 1890) and Jeri
Ames are not in the same league. Therese (apparently) made a great deal of
lace, embroidery, crochet, etc. and was deeply indoctrinated in various
textile skills at an early age. She had influence on the threads being
produced by a major manufacturer for use in creating decorative textiles. And
she
was author of books still consulted today. (Her books were of a
promotional nature, and we will never know how much they were edited by her
employer. Still, it is her name that is remembered, perhaps more often than
DMC!)

My retirement path is about textile conservation and restoration, book
collecting and reviews, and history of those in the international needlework
communities who came before us - our ancestors in all nations. These,
because of personal studies through the years and because so few people are
similarly focused.

My "wish upon a star" is to see others take up sharing the gaps in
lace/embroidery knowledge and making. What would our Arachne readers like to
know
that is not being addressed? Maybe there is something that was taken for
granted 100 years ago. Take one on, and within a short time you will be
doing something shareable - like Noelene's lace poetry, Brenda's lace thread
sizing comparisons, Lauran's use of precious gold and silver wires to make
lace jewelry, Jane's ready answers about tape laces (of the Battenburg
type).

There is room for all skills. We need to constantly document and save
them for future generations.

Re: [lace] Thread size and type

2014-01-30 Thread Sue
And something else I just did, check the size the garment will take. Guess
what neither one I had in mind will take the size of lace, :-( So as I
still want to make it I will need to decide on a different piece of clothing
with the area to take it. Its too nice to let go at this moment.

Thank you Sue

If you are using it on a piece of clothing which will be laundered, do make
sure that whatever thread you choose is colour-fast
