Re: [lace] wire lace bracelet
I had to search the Arache folders, as it wasn't clear from your post which of your folders the bracelet was in. But the search was worth it! This looks great to me. I love the colour! Sorry Jill--I thought it came up in the Photostream section as a recent entry! My computer skills leave something to be desired. Hi all, The lovely bracelet comes up as the first photograph of the photo-stream page. Thank you for putting it on Susan and explaining how you did it. Joepie, enjoying the lovely weather today. Thanks Joepie. I guess I don't know enough about Flickr. My link opens to the 'Albums' view and I didn't see that there were other options, including 'Photostream'. [lace] Lace Editors and Proofreaders
Dear Lovers of Lace, It has occurred to me that we need to thank the people who bring lace publications to members of various lace guilds all over the world. These publications, and their distribution, usually cost more than any other budgeted expense of our guilds. The Editors and Proofreaders can never be thanked enough for their labor-intensive work, always with a fixed deadline that can be inconvenient for various reasons. Occasionally, a publication will come through without being proofread, and then we see the value of the persons with that volunteer responsibility. When we read Lace publications of 100 or more years ago, we must marvel at how well writers and editors did. Back then, few women attended colleges or universities, and many did not finish high school. They had to consult with each other by surface mail or expensive long-distance telephone, when writing about this specialized field - Lace. We have so many advantages today, starting with a much larger body of people with advanced educations. All the more reason to pass quality publications (or similar, like web sites) on to the lace makers of 100 years in the future. You may send this to your favorite Lace Editors and Proofreaders - with a personal note, of course! [lace] Re: lace style sheet, was lace proof readers
I for one would like a lace Style Sheet for lacemaking terms. lace making, lace-making or lacemaking? lace makers or lacemakers? needle lace or needlelace? plural of lace? lace or laces? needlelace makers? needle lacemakers? needle lace makers? bobbin lace makers? Bobbin lacemakers? I am sure there are other words that cause agita to lace writers and proof readers, but these come to my mind immediately. Devon In a message dated 5/19/2014 12:18:53 P.M. [lace] lace style sheet
Devon I am certainly aware of the same problem. Consequently, whenever I create a lace web page, I use both forms of those word -- bobbinlace and bobbin lace, needlelace and needle lace. So search engines can find the page, however the searcher types in the words. Lorelei - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Style sheet for writers on lace.
I would love one. Mind you on retirement i told myself that I would not anymore do two things: 1. Swop and change queues in the Supermarket. I now choose a queue and wait! 2. I would not practice academic writing anymore. I had my fill of that âneedfulâ but frustrating discipline. That is why i write like I do... more or less, how I talk. (A Devon accent with a slight Australian twang!) Having said that, the issue of (for me) Lace bobbins, or lace making bobbins, the example of âlacemakersâ or whatever variation on that your spell checker wants to offer you, even my self imposed East Devon bobbins instead of Honiton bobbins. Though my use is more accurate it does clash with common usage. I have probably lost that battle like the antique dealers miss naming âLace Makers Lampsâ. From the quality of emails i have received over the years there are more than a few members who are far better writers than I am, so I think it is truly possible to create, from amongst the members, a very practical style sheet. IF I can help I will do, but I am not the one to listen to with confidence. âBye âme dearsâ Brian (who is as âMaized as a Brushâ.) - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
