Re: [lace] Happy Christmas
Hi all Luton Museum brought out a new edition of the book fairly recently ( late 2012), with new high-quality digital photographs of the samples - beautiful eye candy for any lacemaker, and an inspiration for the bucks point makers. I ordered mine directly from the Luton Museums' website - it's still available there https://www.lutonculture.com/shop/shop/books-and-media/the-lace-dealers-pattern-book/ hope all those who celebrate it have had a wonderful Christmas - I've even managed to find time for a bit of lace during the break, so Salamander no. 3 (in tropical lagoon camouflage) is ready to come of the pillow. Happy New Year 2015 - here's hoping we all have time for lace Beth in a very frosty Cheshire, NW England, but fortunately we've escaped the snow. Robin wrote: Sue wrote: The pattern I bought and used was taken from the Lace Dealers handbook (now have I got that quote right?)Does that mean it was a pattern in a book which people might choose to have made for a particular reason. Hi, Sue The Luton Museum's Lace Dealer's Pattern Book is a series of pages to which snippets of lace are attached. The dealer would show these pieces, produced by the women that worked for him, and the customer would pick the one she wanted and tell how many yards (or pieces, if it's a motif). Then the dealer would order that amount from the woman who specialized in that pattern. The one at the Luton Museum got some fame when it was raising money to have the book refurbished. They wanted to remount the lace pieces on archival board. Arachne was one of the donors, by holding a raffle of prizes donated by members. After the re-mounting, the museum had a book made of photographs of the pages. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Dear Arachneans, Many thanks to one and all who replied to my request. I will forward the replies to my friend who will be most grateful. Re: [lace] Season's Greetings
I haven't been able to access my email lately, but wanted to thank Noelene for her lovely Christmas card and collection of poems! The card is quite lovely, with a lace figure and pretty sparkles on the front. We are so lucky to have Noelene share her poetry with us! Thank you Noelene! [lace] The Royal Lacemaker
I managed to get a copy of The Royal Lacemaker from my local library. At first I found it a bit tedious with all the evil squire has his wicked way bits but I persevered and once our heroine had developed a bit of backbone I enjoyed the book. [lace] Seasons Greetings
Just got a Lace digest and was reading through the emails, and I saw the one from Sue Harvey in Norfolk, UK, decided to go to the Arachne card exchange to check out Rebecca's tree ornament. I was disappointed to see that there wasn't a scan of it. Might I suggest that those people lucky enough to receive a card that does not have a corresponding photo on the site, that they take a scan and send it to Jenny. I would also like to thank Jenny for her work on collecting all the cards together for us to see. I particularly like the robin card made by Sue Vossier on page 8. Sue, is that pattern available anywhere? Thanks to Gon for the weekly pattern, always interesting to see them and this one is in christmas colors. Wow, Lyn, I am in awe. I could never work that much lace that went into the altar cloths. I think making yardage is tedious work when I have to do it once the novelty of learning the pattern has worn off. I guess I just like the challenge of trying a new pattern but have a short attention span. :-) I did make a lace bracelet with beads just before Christmas for my daughter, only to be told I never wear bracelets. Her loss, my gain. Just have to look in my closet to see what I have that is blue to wear it with. Enough ramblings while DH watches the soccer (football) on tv. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015 with lots of time to make more lace. Re: [lace] The Royal Lacemaker
I found it on Amazon for a reasonable price for a paperback. It's not great literature but I did enjoy the story and the description of life then. The author knows how to make bobbin lace and the description of making lace seemed right to me though I would have liked to read more about it. A fun read. Ruth Lyon In sunny Dubuque, Iowa. Janice, so sorry but I must have misunderstood the way it was done, before I sent my card I made to Rebecca I scanned it and sent it to Arachne I didn't know I was supposed to scan the one I received. Re: [lace] Seasons Greetings
You had it right. The sender was supposed to send it to Jenny. Maybe some did not or could not, so my suggestion was that the recipient do it if the card is not in the site. Jenny might be waiting for all the cards before doing the album. Maybe some folk did not do the exchange they signed up for. I suppose if one doesn't have a scanner, a nice photo in JPG would also be acceptable? Re: [lace] Lace Dealers Handbook
Several years ago I bought a booklet from The Lacemakers Circle the proceeds of sales was for the restoration of The Lace Dealers Pattern Book actually I think I might have bought it when visiting the Luton Museum. Must try to get a copy of the new edition from them. [lace] Seasons greeting and thank you
Dear all, A little late, but I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and 2015 is everything you want it to be. My second card arrived today - a lovely tape lace silver butterfly made by Jane in Vermont, USA. I may have missed them, but I have not seen notifications of my 2 cards arriving. I hope they made it to their destinations.
