[lace] Lace Guild website Advent Calendar

2015-11-30 Thread Jean Leader
The Lace Guild's website will once again be mounting its Advent Calendar at
http://www.laceguild.org/guild/calendar.html . For those of you not familiar
with this, there is a new lace picture every day, two of the days have links to
patterns, and six of the days are clues for a competition, which anyone can
enter.

Although this works well on tablets as well as on standard computers, 24
windows are something of a squeeze on a smartphone. So there is also a phone
version of the calendar which you can find at
http://www.laceguild.org/phonecal.html .
The smartphone version has the daily lace picture, although if you want the
patterns and wish to enter the competition you will still need to go to the
standard version. To compensate we have added a literary dimension to the phone
version. (You need to tap somewhere other than the doors to get to it.) If you
miss a day (how could you?) you can go back by tapping somewhere else. (Ask a
small child, if you can’t suss out these hidden features.)
As long as you have a recent browser the calendar should work on most phones.

If you have any problems accessing the calendar please let us know.

from the incessant rain)

Re: [lace] Luton

2015-11-30 Thread Jill

The Luton museum has a small lace gallery where they regularly change what is
on display. Still worth a visit, in my opinion.
The Higgins in Bedford has the Thomas Lester collection - some of the more
famous pieces are on display and you can request to see the other pieces. While
the public display is relatively, if you want to see the Lester pieces you
ahould definitely go.
Both places aren't too far from me. If you have time it would be great to meet
up and catch up.

Subject: [lace] Luton

There is a possibility that I may be going to the UK on a business trip in
December, to the Millbrook Testing facility in Bedford. Looking at a map
showed me that Luton is directly on the way between Heathrow and Bedford.
Somy question is whether there is anything to see there, given that I
alreadyhave the book and CD of the Luton Dealer's Pattern Book. Do
they
have much of a collection beyond that? And if so, how hard is it to get to see
it?--I have specific interests so I'm not asking just to root around in their
collection. But I don't think I could get away with taking more than a day.
Any info or recommendation would be appreciated. Also, is there anything lacy
in Bedford?
