[lace] Lace phrases dictonary?

2006-11-04 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Hello Spiders,
I was wondering the name of the book that was out that listed different lace
terms and phrases in foreign languages. Was it a dictionary of terms or
actual phrases translated in context of the explanation of the lace technique
involved? I think it was in several languages. I went to the Metro Chapter
IOLI Lace Day today and bought a wonderful lace book but it is in French, but
my French ancestors must be going crazy because I can not relate to many of
the terms in the book. The actual diagrams are great but the starting and
finishing are not shown.
I know, of course I should have thought of that when I got the book but the
diagrams looked very clear, plus I get crazy when I see a whole roomful of
lace supplies to be seen.
Thank you for any assistance you can give me.
Regards,
Laura Oppedisano

[lace] Edinburgh

2006-07-06 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Spiders,
Next month, my sister is going to Edinburgh and I know there is at least one
lace related store there. I would like to know the name of the store, I think
it is on Victoria Street. I also would like to know what type of lace things
they carry. I would like her to get me some bobbins which mention Scotland or
Edinburgh, if possible. I really like to SEE lace supplies so I am not
anticipating her making a major purchase for me there. I also wonder if it
will be open since it will be the time of the Edinburgh Festival. I have also
been told it does close on a certain day of the week but I do not know which
one.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

[lace] Edinburgh lace info

2006-04-30 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Spiders,
A lace friend of mine is traveling to Edinburgh in mid June are there any lace
things either going on or places she can visit and possibly shop for supplies?
She will be there a few days so she might possibly have the time to look
around.
Thank you very much for any information you can give me. You can reply to the
list or email me privately.
Sincerely,
Laura Oppedisano
Patiently for school to be over so I can attack my wire lace again.

[lace] Sounds of the bobbins

2006-02-01 Thread Laura Oppedisano

Dear Spiders
Yes, the sounds of the bobbins on the pillow are wonderful. The rhythm of
the movements and the motion of the hands set up a sort of ZONE in my mind.
That is why I get lost in the making of lace and then I realize it has been
3 or 4 hours I have been at it. It is my calming period. I enjoy the peace
and quiet but I can also work quite well with the TV on, just has long as it
is not a horror movie! I get mentally into another place and off I go.
We had to put a phone jax near where I work because I refused to get up to
find the phone.

[lace] Jean Peach/Att. Dora Northern

2005-11-07 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Greetings Dora Northern,
In Oct. you mentioned that you would get messages to Jean Peach since her
computer on down. We just were wondering how she and Gary were.
we knew Gary's health was not good and we were concerned about him. As I have
said before I usually hear from her about twice a month.
Please send me your email address as I have lost it so at least I could
contact you every now and again about them. Here is hoping they get on line
again soon.
Thank you so much.

[lace] new item

2005-10-20 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Gentle Spiders,
I have spied a NEW item at Lowe's home center tonight. A bag made out of some
sort of man made material, which I believe is waterproof, that holds a Holiday
Wreath! It says it hold a wreath up to 24. The bag has 2 handles and I
believe a closure. They were in the Holiday aisle and they were in a
container bag which I could not open up. They were $7.49, which is not too
bad for a weather proof carry bag. Of course, it would be only used for
storage of a pillow because it has a Christmas Wreath motif on it. You might
like the decoration!
  Check it out!

[lace] ornament holder

2005-10-17 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Spiders,
Tonight, at Treasure Island, I spied curved ornament holders. These are the
holders that you can put any bit of hanging lace on. I have used them for
lace covered glass eggs. It is nice to give with the glass egg ornament.
They were only $2.00's. It is just a heads up for gift giving time.

[lace] Fun at home

2005-08-01 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Hi out there,
I have the wonderful luxury of being off work for 2 1/2 months! I was
determined to catch up with all my lacemakingless months throughout the school
year. I have so far made 5 wire lace pins. Colored wire and silver plaited
wire. It was interesting to feel the difference in using the different
wires. It is nice to get used to different gauges.
I am getting used to making leaves. They are a lot easier in wire than making
them in thread.
Enjoy the rest of the summer,
Laura Oppedisano

[lace] this and that

2005-01-18 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Spiders,
I had to tell you of a comment I recieved over the weekend. I went to a
gathering and one of the ladies complimented me on my wire lace flower
brooch. When I said I had made it she said It looked so perfect it can not
be handmade! She, of course, began to elaborate and cover up her
statement at that point. I secretly laughed and let her squirm for a bit.
Devon, we will still try to educate the masses about lace.
On to another item: I have sent Lena an email and it has come back as
undeliverable. I did notice that she has taken off her web site the
supplies and patterns she usually carries. I know she was at the NEC in
England in the fall but I do not know where in the world, literaly, she is.
It is NOT important for me to contact her immediately but I was just
wondering if anyone knows if all is well. Before when she was traveling she
once in a while would check her emails but this bounce back never happened
before.
Thanks for any comments or help.

2004-07-19 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Dear Spiders,
Thank you to all who have written to me about the wire lace brooch. I now see
CLEARLY what has to be done. On to another matter: I have a Lace friend who
will be traveling to Russia in August and I was wondering if there were any
places or stores or collectives she might be able to buy the wonderful Russian
Tape lace items we see at lace Days. She will be visiting Moscow and St.
Petersburg. She will also be in Tallinn in Antonia.
Any information about these places would be greatly appreciated. I was
singing the praises of the list to her and now I want to show her your wealth
of knowledge in many things.
Thank you all again about the wire lace question. I begin tonight.

[lace] wire lace brooch

2004-07-18 Thread Laura Oppedisano
Hi smart spiders!
Please help me if you can. I am about to start the Poinsettia Brooch from
Dianna Stevens. The directions for the amount of wire to add onto the bobbins
have me confused. I am mathematically challenged, being an art teacher. The
directions are as follows. Brooch base: make 1 10 pair 32 gauge [ which I am
using] 5 feet divided. In the workshops with Lenka, she was right there to
clarify the amounts per bobbin. I have looked all over the booklet and there
really is no comment on the length rule.
I am sure these instructions are very clear to everyone but me but right now
pride goes before the start of the project! Help, I need clarification.
Thank you very much,
Confused,

Dear Lace Digest,
I have not been receiving my regular Lace Digest for the last few weeks. I
can not figure it out. People have written to me that they get MY messages
but I can not get the whole Lace Digest like I used to. I wrote to Avril but
I have not gotten a reply.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
