VERY nice idea, Karen.

Do we have people with skill or advice in digitizing in the room?

As a back-of-the-book INDEXER in real life (retired), I imagine I could put
you in contact with folks who do Indexing regularly, and thus know the
‘customs’ and standard guidelines. If making this happen interests anyone
at IOLI, please get back to me.

[lace] Personal note to Monica Posner

Sorry everyone.
Personal note to Monica:

I’m trying to respond to your nice note, but your address has blocked me.

Could you give me another email address (thru a different server), or a phone
number that I can call?

Thank you,

Idea: You might “Reply" to the message to see the content. I don’t know if
this will work in this situation or not. (You’d have to toss the message at
that point unless you really do went to Reply, but that might be an easier
work-around than hunting for the original in other posts.)

[lace] Source for Grounds Notation?

2017-07-11 Thread Osgood Martha
Hi everyone,

I think I’m looking for an on-line source for explaining Notations for
Grounds (both directions). It would appear that we can/do invent our own
Grounds, but if there are already marvelous options, how shall I learn to read
them? For example, I would do a half-stitch ground (first) if I saw this
notation.

But what stitch would I do if I saw these?

or these?

Your advice and URLs are appreciated.

Warmly,
Martha Osgood

Re: [lace] Anniversary ideas for a small guild? Thank you!

2017-04-15 Thread Osgood Martha
Wow. These celebration ideas are deeply appreciated! Will ya look at their
creativity, warmth and meaningfulness!! These warm ideas can lead to more
connections among lacemakers, AND make memories that can be rekindled each
following year. Thank you each very, very much!

Great deal.

expertise, especially if you can offer her meals and a place to stay
overnight. Also, some women who have been lacing a long time have acquired
interesting things, like lace, books, equipment (they will have some of those
anniversary bobbins others have recommended), table favors - acquired at a
national or regional meetings of IOLI - that your members may never have seen.
Each member could bring what is special to the meeting - to discuss.

These laces show animals and people, or interpret old art masterpieces - in
lace. I have collected articles about the original art to go with these
laces, giving them provenance. One of my figural laces was purchased from
Nancy Evans, who is a lace dealer - in your state. Very few books show them.
Mine are made by bobbins, needle, crochet hook.

press coverage.

Competent.

hire a minivan and go to a meeting of a larger lace guild in Oregon. I
realize that Oregon is very large, and driving distances are a problem when
you'd like to meet others. Our Lacemakers of Maine has a member who lives in
New Brunswick Canada - a very long distance from our meetings. She and her
husband come down, maybe once a year to visit for a couple days. One of our
members offers them a place to stay. She concentrates on lace and her lace
friends; he disappears to pursue his interests and also does a few repairs in
the hostess's house, for which she is most grateful.

[lace] Anniversary ideas for a small guild?

2017-04-09 Thread Osgood Martha
Hi Lacers,

We’re still a small guild (ahem - for a while), and some of our members are not
able to be as active as they’d like. But we’d still like to do something to
acknowledge our (non-zero) anniversary as a charter member of IOLI.

Can any of you share little things we could do that would be warm, welcoming,
cheerful and celebratory? Do any of you have special traditions you have
developed for this annual celebration? How do you mark this day as special?

Thanks in advance,

Martha Osgood

[lace] Our local 15 minutes of fame

2017-03-23 Thread Osgood Martha
Allow me to share the marvelous article that just came out in our local
newspaper about our Guild, the Oregon Trail Lacemakers. We have been an IOLI
charter member since 2003, and are looking for more area people who are
interested in lacemaking.

The photographer and the reporter seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the
reporter even got to try some stitches on our visitor’s pillow. I thought they
did a good job interviewing us, then showing the variety of members and their
interests/motivations in choosing lacemaking in the article.

Please enjoy!
