Hello all,

Do you know of any bobbin lace makers in Romania? I will be in Cluj in June
and would love to meet some lacemakers there.

Mea Culpa on including the email address for Olga. Thought I had eliminated
the Arachne address and sent the email to Elizabeth only.
I do not post to the list for the very reason of not wanting any of my emails
to post on Arachne. This one was a slip up. Will be more vigilant in the
future..especially using the tablet.

Do not think this got to its destination. Posting again.

Dear Secret Pal,

What a lovely package to come home to after work. Once again it was stuffed
to the brim with goodies. The stitch 'n hang is really cute, I have not seen
one before. I will enjoy doing it as I have not done counted cross stitch in
years. I can always use a pillow anchor. I seem to misplace them all the
time. They do come in handy for other items one does not want to move. The
whole packet of beads is really appreciated. A person can never :))) have to
many. You included some unusual ones. Thanks for sharing. The emery is now
in my purse. An emery is one item I always seem to forget. Last but not
least...Turkish delight. That is another sweet I have not had in years.
Gone, all gone already.

As always a happy camper with the goodies

[lace] Secret Pal

2006-06-10 Thread Rosemary Horr
The 'wee package had some bumps coming across the really Big Pond! However,
she protected the very thoughtful contents to within an inch of her life! I
have not seen vegemite in yearsthanks for the memories. You are right it
is an acquired taste. The pencil has joined others in the pencil cup. The
treads are in favorite shades and will be happy as gimps in some bookmarks I
am planning. Of course, every girl loves bling. I have a hat that the
rhinestone R will look smashing on. Last but not least, what an interesting
carry bag for pins, tools, bobbins etc. It must have been a puzzle to put
together. It looks like it has origami eliments in it construction. I will
happily use it for a long time to come.

Once again thank you, Secret Pal,

Dear SP,

Oh joy! Your package arrived! What a delight. Your father's bobbins have
gone directly into my collection. The silk scarf with its lovely painted
flowers brought thoughts of spring. After a day at work, I will appreciate
playing the CD. I enjoy guitar music. The Kit Kat is already history. It was
too great a temptation. The Cancer Crusade pink pen is residing in my spring
pink purse. Last but not least the pot holder has been put to good use.

You sent such thoughtful gifts. Thank you heaps and heaps!

[lace] bobbins for wire lace

2006-01-31 Thread Rosemary Horr
I did make some wire bobbins from some on hand. They worked very well. If I
made any more I think I would look for or make bobbins that have a neck
somewhat thicker than ones usually seen. To me the look of the finished lace
is better for not having the wire wound more times around the neck.

[lace] Ebay item

2005-07-01 Thread Rosemary Horr
To all spiders interested,

May I put forth another idea as to what the square is. Could it possibly have
been used as a cover for the chalice or some other item in the Catholic Mass.
I know they were/are used. However, there are usually religious symbols on
the items so do question this option. The only symbol I could see is the
somewhat cross shape of the center. If, as someone on the list suggested, the
center has been replaced, the original center may have contained symbols.

It could have been adopted for another use such as a doily or a for show hanky
later. I believe, and do not quote me, doilies are from the 19th century. The
Victorians on just loved them.

All the above is pure conjecture on my part but dialogue is good! Is it not!

Re: [lace] Website, Brazilian bobbin lace

2005-06-20 Thread Rosemary Horr
Hi,

I think the pins are some type of thorn. I have another picture from a
Brazilian book on their Rendas and it shows the same type. Some of the them
do not have the blob on top so I think that might be a wax of some sort. All
a guess on my part. It is one of those things I was going to look into and
never have...as of yet.

Regards,
Rosemary in Sunny Flagstaff, AZ.

Talk about color in bobbin lace!

Some interesting pictures as you click through the website:
under the About link, what *are* those things being used as pins?

[lace] Re: (lace) currency

2005-06-17 Thread Rosemary Horr
Another option is to use an ATM (automatic teller machine) card. My bank
does not charge fees for out of system use. If the slips are saved and given
to a teller the bank also reimburses all other charges. Easy way to get cash
daily. I also got a very good exchange rate when in Europe.
