[lace] new to me

2008-06-29 Thread Aliceknit
Hell all
This is probably old hat to you but a new achievement for me.
I've been making leaves in white cotton - White DMC Dentelle 100
Then I coloured them, using various shades of red/pink and green for the stems
I used coloured felt tipped pens.
They look really good.

[lace] Lace earrings

2006-09-18 Thread Aliceknit
hello all
There was an article in Needlecraft magazine in the '90's
showing how to make a fan edging, pull the leading edge thread and attach it
to an earring.
I have totally mislaid this magazine. Where could I purchase this or
similar pattern??? I'd like to make 2 as presents.
I've got Cook Stott books but can't work out how to do it.
Thank you all the helpful info you all send in.
Take care - Alice Wilmshurst (England)

[lace] self healing blocks

2005-10-31 Thread Aliceknit
helloo all
Are there such things as self healing blocks ???
I only make bookmarks. 25 for 2004 and again for 05 plus those I do during
the year.
I obtain polystyrene strips from an electrical shop, but I rather fancy self
healing
blocks. The cost might be prohibitive of course.

[lace] length of yarn

2005-09-19 Thread Aliceknit
hello all
continuing -how long is a piece of string. It bothers me how much yarn i need
to
put in my bitty bag for possible keyring use.
What I have tried to do is:
Use one of those map mile measures. Go over each (Bobbin) length of design
make a minute squigle at each crossing and follow each thread down to the
bottom
plus a bit for spare, in case I've made a mistake. But of course that extra
length
is the bit in my bitty box, so I haven't gained anything at all. (big smile).
Alice Wilmshurst, England There has to be a way of measuring the amount
needed.

Last week someone was asking about a pricker with a wooden head (smile).
It was called wood handle pricker. I explained I wanted one easy on my hand

I bought one from:

[lace] walnut for turning into bobbins

2004-02-07 Thread Aliceknit
hello all
My 100 year old walnut tree blew down last week.
The tree surgeons are cutting it up next week.
Is anyone in the woodturning world interested in
purchasing sections of this tree I'm certain that it would make wonderful
bobbins?
This really only applies to UK but is interesting for all that.
Bye Alice W in Glos England
