Re: [lace] Candida's lace
Yes, Mariña's book has been published a few years ago. This is the book: http://www.roseground.com/images/product/e2af6568c737eb554f12fc6122b19721.jpg I think it is fantastic. Barbara Fay sells it. But I don't know about distributors in the USA. In case you do not find it, get in touch with Mariña personally. Good luck! Re: [lace] Candida's lace
Mariña's book published a few years ago was on Hinojosa lace, which is related to but not exactly the same as Candida's lace. It was distributed by Holly in the US but whether there are any copies left anywhere is another matter, certainly all the UK ones were sold. As far as I have heard, the new book isn't yet published. If anyone is interested, there is still time to book one of the last places in Mariña's class at The Lace Guild summer school in August. Holly van Sciver has it in the US. Lovely book but pricy. NAYY Cynthia On May 3, 2015, at 10:05 AM, AGlez antje.gonza...@gmail.com wrote: Yes, Mariña's book has been published a few years ago. [lace] Candida's lace
I have been an avid lurker for the better part of the past year. Spent most of that time getting my house ready to sell. It sold, and I'm now in my new abode...digging myself out. Most of the boxes should be labeled what the heck did I bring this for?. I wasn't able to make it to Ithaca last October, so I missed Marina's Candida's lace class. A few years ago she mentioned she would be publishing a book on Candida's Lace. Does anyone know if this is in the works? A few boxes away from getting to my lace stuff. Looking forward to getting back to it. Peg Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Candida's lace not going to the dogs!
Hello All! It's a bummer to be back on eastern time when I've been on Lace Time for several days. Last weekend, I attended Ithaca Lace Days had a blast! I ended up using the DMC 60 cordonnet for my coarse thread in the Honiton class. Upon reflection, I realized that for previous beginner pieces, I had simply used thicker thread so this will give me a chance to see the differences/similarities make a decision for future projects. My butterfly has a body part of one upper wing so with courage in hand, I bought some 140 thread for the next papillon. In the meantime, my roommate attended the Candida's class so I was able to leaf thru her book. Oh my--some stunning braids!!! It reminded me of Milanese so now I wonder if one was influenced by the other, or did they develop independently?? Several were so charming, I'm tempted to try them next to a Milanese braid within the same piece as they offer additional expression within a form. Specifically, I'm referring to ! the holes created in Crossover (Milanese) vs. those created in Candida's (Rice?) where the threads from one side are lifted and/or twisted over threads from the other before re-entering the work. This makes for a textural element that differs from Milanese where each side is worked thru the opposing side (crossing). Perhaps someone who knows more would be willing to comment. The bonus of the trip, other than seeing old friends shopping at the vendor tables, was meeting Sirius. Lyn Bailey her husband Bob brought their wonder dog along for the ride in their RV. Jet black silky, this Newfoundland is a heart breaker! Many thanks to Holly crew for putting on the party.
