It is interesting that there is a discussion about when International Lace
Day is. Several different days have been brought up and reasons why one
day for the world would/would not be feasible. Since 2015 there has been a
Facebook group (International Lace Day) with over 1,500 members. This year
all these lace makers from around the world will be celebrating on July
1st. Just letting you know.

2018-06-25 Thread Malvary
If you look it up on Google, it is shown as September 29 for 2018.

I agree if it really going to be celebrated as International, then one date
should be chosen. However, to make lace outside to attract public attention,
one date doesn’t necessarily work for the whole world as summer here, is winter
down under.

July 1 is Canadian national holiday so many people are out and about taking
part in celebrations and not thinking about finding somewhere to make lace.

of a heatwave.

As I understand it, this International Lace Day idea first appeared on the
facebook in 2015, by Bolillera Maribel (that is the name she uses on
facebook). This is the thing about the internet; anyone and everyone has equal
freedom to create or post anything they like, without a bunch of people
standing behind them and authorizing their activities. It results in a certain
amount of chaos. But it also means that the individual has a great deal of
freedom to do whatever they like. It is my impression that the national lace
groups did not get together to establish an international lace day. So this
lady just went and did it on her own. If her effort works, well and good. And
it does seem to be working.

I think we wrote in the past that all the major lace organizations should get
together and standardize this celebration, if it is to be called
"International". It would be nice if our major guilds communicated with each
other, and if one major guild volunteered to take this on as a special
project.

Actually, if remembered correctly, different nations have declared different
dates as being International Lace Day.  I think we wrote in the past that all
the major lace organizations should get together and standardize this
celebration, if it is to be called "International".  It would be nice if our
major guilds communicated with each other, and if one major guild volunteered
to take this on as a special project.  I'd suggest one officer in each group
should be assigned this responsibility.  Maybe the corresponding secretary?
Probably OIDFA has the best network to provide oversight.  What do others
think?

We need to preserve and develop as much consensus as possible about lace, and
that means cooperating.

We are a small percentage of the world's population.  No one nation's lace
experts has all the answers.  If all could agree in spite of national,
traditional, and language differences, we might die knowing organizing lace
activities will survive to the 22nd Century and beyond.

Do you remember when two major annual lace conventions/congresses were
scheduled for the same dates?  It was really a problem for lace teachers and
students who could not be in two places at the same time.  That got resolved
(permanently, we hope).

We have a universal Internet to use.  Agreeing on one International Lace Day
per year is just one of several things that need attention in order to be
"united-in-lace".

Reading Lin's email this morning I was eager to post International
Lace Day on the International Organization of Lace's facebook page. I
tried to confirm the date. I think that it is actually July 1, this
year. So there is still a little bit of time to organize your
lacemaking and to post about your participation on the Facebook page.
