Having traced the pattern through google and the archives, I would think that you just didn't tension tightly enough as you pin, to wrap the previous left-to-right row of work over the shoe lace. Basically you are making the bobbinlace equivalent of knitted i-cord (like frrench knitting) and if you have ever done that you will remember you have to tension firmly as you knit the first stitch or two of each row. What the instructions don't say though is how to get the ridges which are what make it unusual. I suppose that the thick and thin thread pairs need to be placed alternately, but there don't seem to enough ridges to need as many as 20 pairs, thus giving 10 thick pairs; it looks as if there are four or five at the most. As the gaps between the ridges are quite wide, it's almost as if there are a couple of thin pairs then one thick one. The spiralling probably just happens; did you get that?. Hello All! The last time I mentioned this subject, several of you agreed that it was a clever idea something you wanted to try. Have you? If so, were you successful or did problems sprout like weeds after a rain storm? Let's just say there's been some gnashing of teeth over the past few days as I've tried to finish enough length to make a decent necklace. I'm going to blame it on operator error but would sure like to know how/why/where I went astray. Is the designer a member of Arachne would he/she give some additional guidance? I was really into the concept, loved the threads it looked great until I took it off the pillow to find a gaping chasm for almost the entire length. Clearly I didn't tension properly?? Or use enough bobbins??. To save the project, I wove in additional threads with a tapestry needle but the effect is less than stellar. The recommended threads were not available so I used substitutes selected from Brenda's book, 15 passive pairs plus O! liver Twist variegated cotton for the weaver. Working in sets of 5, I tensioned after each set, then retensioned when setting the pin pulling the right pair to the left. Pins were pushed in after 2 pins were worked. Since I don't have a block pillow, I moved the lace/cord ended up with a nodule at that point. So--if anyone can help, your advice is welcome! I also have this set up to translate, but the people who translated it for us used full english and lace speak rather than the pigeon stuff we normally got. I for one hadn't quite been able to understand what they were telling me to do, but it did raise a smile. I often use diagrams to help me understand what the instructions are, but this downloaded just the picture and brief written in the original language.
