[lace] Lace Guild website Advent Calendar

2015-11-30 Thread Jean Leader
The Lace Guild's website will once again be mounting its Advent Calendar at
http://www.laceguild.org/guild/calendar.html . For those of you not familiar
with this, there is a new lace picture every day, two of the days have links to
patterns, and six of the days are clues for a competition, which anyone can
enter.

Although this works well on tablets as well as on standard computers, 24
windows are something of a squeeze on a smartphone. So there is also a phone
version of the calendar which you can find at
http://www.laceguild.org/phonecal.html .
The smartphone version has the daily lace picture, although if you want the
patterns and wish to enter the competition you will still need to go to the
standard version. To compensate we have added a literary dimension to the phone
version. (You need to tap somewhere other than the doors to get to it.) If you
miss a day (how could you?) you can go back by tapping somewhere else. (Ask a
small child, if you can’t suss out these hidden features.)
As long as you have a recent browser the calendar should work on most phones.

If you have any problems accessing the calendar please let us know.

Jean and David in Glasgow where it may snow tomorrow (which will be a change
from the incessant rain)

2014-12-01 Thread Sue
Thank you Jean and David as ever. Now it feels a bit like christmas. I
have been thinking christmas for too long and now it is this close it
doesn't feel quite real. Absurd I know, but thats my poor brain, LOL.
Our christmas will be early anyway as our daughter will visit and go again
so now I am in full christmas run up mode, but I do love to peek at the
calendar every day.
I sent off my quilt advent to our step great granddaughter wondering if as a
modern child she would love it or not be bothered because it doesn't do
anything, but all is well and she loves it. It had taken me way too long
so I am pleased to get it out of the house at last before she got too old to
enjoy it, LOL.

prepared a phone version of the calendar which you can find at
http://www.laceguild.org/phonecal.html

We have tested the site on all iPhones from 3G to 6+, and on several android
phones and one Windows phone. As long as you have a recent browser the
calendar should work. (We had trouble on an HTC phone until we downloaded a
Chrome browser.)If you have any problems accessing the calendar please let
us know.

your phone and check it each day.

I forgot to remind people that if they are having difficulty finding
the holly link to the Advent Calendar on the top left (to the right
of 'The Lace Guild') it is likely that they are seeing an old page.
(I've had a couple of emails that suggest this may be the case.)

Check the bottom right is 'last updated: 1st December 2004'. If it is
not, refresh/reload the page. (On some browsers this is done by an
icon that looks a bit like a recycle button. On the Mac it is usually
command-R, on Windows it may be alt-R or control-R.) The date will
not update from 1st December as that is hand tooled, so if you can't
open any of the windows on the right date you'll just need to try to
refresh.

[lace] Lace Guild Website Advent Calendar

2004-11-30 Thread Jean Leader
OK, we managed to get something together in the St Nick of time (ho!
ho! ho!). A different type of competition this year - doesn't require
vast (any?) knowledge of lace, so we look forward to lots of entries.

For those who have joined the list in the last year and wonder what
on earth we're going on about, it's the annual Advent Calendar on the
Lace Guild website (address in our signature below) which you get to
by clicking on the sprig of holly on the top menu bar of the home
page. You can only open the windows up to the current date (so no
cheating possible) and I'm afraid you need javascript (scripting)
turned on in your web browser, so there may be the odd work computer
that will not let you open the windows. Two of the days have links to
small lace patterns - but you'll have to wait a few days for the
first. There's a competition with prizes - this year jigsaw puzzling
some of the lace pictures together again.

That's about it. If you have any problems email us and we'll try to
sort them out.

Best wishes,
Jean and David
