Re: [lace] Little Urchin
Love it, Susan! I also eyed your pretty gimp bobbins. They look to be ceramic in the middle..(?) I haven't ever seen any like that before. Where are they from? Also, noticed your pictures from the Flagler Museum which I hadn't seen...very nice too. We must add that as a stop next time we're in Florida! I must say, I can't imagine installing the urchin over a stone as noted in the Purl Bee website instructions unless one is double jointed!! FYI--I'm left handed the instructions didn't work for me because the pattern is directional. Fudging ensued. My overall impression is that it's a quick easy little item to make for a guild event/program or for gifts. Re: [lace] Little Urchin
I should have gone to look at the pictures when you posted your first post, because now I see what you made is a SEA Urchin. All this time I was imagining it being a hedgehog, the Middle English name for this being Urchin, and this term is still quite well widely used in the UK. Now I also understand why someone might want to put it over a stone. Not much good as a pincushion though! As a non English speaker, I didn't understand the message completely. Now I do. And I really like the little Urchin. Good idea to use old samples of crochet I have in a drawer. Like Jacquie below I didn't read the post properly and was looking for a smal grubby child in the photos. [lace] Little Urchin Crocheted Sea Stones
Hello All! In between packing, I wandered thru the Purl Bee site again (www.purlbee.com) found these delightful crocheted lace bibelots. Right side, scroll down thru Crochet Projects Alphabetically. There is a free pattern for a simple one, but I'll bet some of the others that are pictured could be made by modifying the vintage patterns at Digital Archives. Have fun.
