[lace] Poppies

2018-06-25 Thread Susan
While looking thru a shoebox full of old stamps today, I ran across an
interesting item. There was a packet containing several single, cancelled US
stamps featuring Moina Michael (3 cents!) from 1948. A quick Google search
revealed that, according to Wikipedia, MM was responsible for remembrance
poppies. If you made a lace poppy for the Australian project or admired the
lace exhibit of California poppies, you might enjoy reading about this
extraordinary woman from Georgia. Sincerely, Susan Hottle USA

If you're on pinterest (which I'm not) there seem to be some tatted poppy
patterns pictured there:

and I tracked down a few patterns:

[lace] Poppies.

2018-01-18 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti.
Does anyone have a Poppy Pattern for Tatting? I have some red thread and
would be happy to tat some poppies for this wonderful project.

Tatting is almost all I can do these days – at the moment. I try a bit of
Early Lace, as I can plait, and mostly pins go in where necessary, and don’t
have to be so precise as with other Lacemaking.
This distorted vision is so frustrating, but Tatting is keeping me sane – so
far!!!

Regards from Liz. In Very hot Melbourne, Oz.

Sue,

I think this might be a pricking I need, as I don't have one yet.
Tell how Janice.
thanks
David in Ballarat, AUS

The other day I pinned my lace poppy to my coat in advance of remembrance
sunday and has already been admired by a couple of ladies working in our local
shops.
Just thought I would say thank you again to Janice Blair for her gift of the
pattern so we could make them and I continue to wear it every year as well as
putting money in tins obviously.
I wonder how many others still wear their lace poppy.

Hi David,
Sue is going to send you a copy, and she may have already done so.
I get the digest so am always late with items.  I had lost my file and she
kindly sent me a copy.  It was designed for the IOLI convention way back in
2008, so probably 2007.  I may have it filed in my old convention folders
rather than my lace designs.  Sue is more organized than me. :-)

[lace] Poppies!

2011-07-07 Thread Sandi Woods
Hello!
Thank you everyone, for the interest shown in my Poppy photos - I have been
somewhat amazed to receive such a positive feedback.
However, I was obviously not the only one to be overwhelmed, my computer
crashed half-way through when I was trying to answer all your kind messages.
So, if you have written to me and not received a reply, please accept my
apologies and write again. I will talk sternly to/negotiate with my computer
and try to get back to you!
Sandi.

[lace] poppies, leaves PLG newsletter

2011-07-06 Thread hottleco
Hello All! May I add my thanks congratulations to David for the stunning
photos of his poppy lace! WOW!! That said--as charming as the poppies are, I
am in love with the leaves. Graceful almost acanthus-like curves. Very
classic begging to be combined with other motifs if one would choose. We
must change your title to David of Ballarat or David de Ballarat! The PLG
(Pittsburgh Lace Group) newsletter arrived today there were all sorts of
tidbits. Thank you Robin (obtaining permission) Noelene (giving permission)
for sharing the Torchon Tug poem. I'm sure everyone is nodding chuckling.
This is the 30th anniversary year of PLG I had no clue that Pamela Nottingham
once taught a workshop there, back in the early days of the group. Gretchen
shared a photo of a communion veil that she made in 1994 that has been worn by
any number of small children in her extended family. Lace Camp will be devoted
to all things spidery. And as we bid farewell to Dorothy wh!
o is recovering from her stroke, a brief resume of her passions skills:
lacemaking, baking, canning, dancing, trumpet piano lessons, buttonbox
serenades providing bed breakfast accommodations for visiting lace teachers
students. Where would we be without our lacemaking friends on Arachne
beyond? Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA

If I have done it correctly, you can see 11 of the poppy pictures I took at the
IOLI convention on my photobucket album. I did not make a note of who made
which lace and I know that some lacemakers made more than one.

Thank you so much Janice. I loved seeing all of the Poppies. It just boggles
my
mind to see so many creative and talented people that make lace. These Poppies
are beautiful. I have saved them to my favorites so I can look at them again
sometime.

[lace] poppies

2010-09-30 Thread hottleco
Hello Again! Thank you Janice for posting the poppy photos. Lovely sinuous
stems. Just wish there were more colors! I first saw the sky blue ones at Les
Jardins de Metis in Canada they are showstoppers!! For those interested,
since poppy season is over here, eye candy inspiration are available in BBC
Gardens Illustrated #162, the article on Meconopsis. Just the thought of
finding threads in those shades gives me shivers! Sincerely, Susan Hottle,
