While I wanted to point out in my last posting that there was room for
competition, I would not want anyone to think that I was not happy or proud
of the award given to me at IOLI. I just feel that more people should enter
and compete.

I do not make lace for the awards. But by entering the competition the lace
is compared to certain criteria and allows me to approximate where my
ability lies. And because we also received the judges forms used to
quantify the criteria, I can see what parts I did well and which parts I
need to pay closer attention to make better lace. I would not have that
without competing.

It does require a certain amount of ego to enter a completion and a belief
that what you do is good enough for others to look closely at. It also
requires a certain amount of humility in accepting the judges decisions and
use that as an reason to learn and expand from that.

I have to admit that I won to easily last year and it was reflected in my
entry this year for the Original Design category. Because I did not put in
as much effort as I should have, I did not win. And I can honestly say that
those who did win should have won. They did a better job of it then I did.
So look out next year. But I also won something in the sense that I
now understand to process and the people competing against better. And the
learning experience will show in all of my lace, not just the lace entered
in contests.

I take great pride in the award I received this year and will display it
with such.
