The Retournac bookmark patterns are 6, 4, 11 & 20. I think only 11 & 20 are
currently available on the site. Susan, getting ready to leave the tropics to

Oh! Dear!!

As would have been the case in 18th Century paintings, a preponderance of
men in the photos.

Granted, their names are given, but wouldn't it be nice to see the
lacemakers with the laces they made?

2009-01-21 Thread Beth Marshall
The caption to the photo of the bookmarks included which pattern pack each of
the bookmarks shown was from. (The patterns from the Retournac museum are
only available in sets - there are about 20 sets now, some of which may be
out-of-print at the moment - not as individual patterns).

The sets are beautiful (I have quite a few of them) but not particularly
cheap, especially for those buying in £ or $ at the moment. Probably not quite
worth buying a set just to make the bookmark from it, but worth looking at.

BTW Susan, the patterns have no or very little diagrams/instructions so might
not be suitable for a near beginner.

[lace] Retournac lace patterns

2008-11-22 Thread beth
The latest set of patterns (set 21) from the Retournac lace museum arrived
through my letterbox today and they are beautiful!

(If you haven't already discovered the museum website, the pattern set can be
seen at
http://www.ville-retournac.fr/musee/anglais/fiche_produit.php?id_produit=48 )

The circular piece with the "flower" of leaf tallies in the centre has me
itching to wind up my bobbins and get started. Alas, common sense tells me I
first need to finish off the torchon handkerchief edging that's been on my
pillow for nearly two years, otherwise neither piece will ever get anywhere
near being completed.

All that and the lovely Galician patterns Antje posted about, all on the same
day. It feels like birthday and Christmas all come at once!

So many lace patterns, so little time...

2008-11-14 Thread Tess Parrish
I am not sure what the rules are about mentioning a commercial
venture on Arachne, but i have just received an email from the museum
at Retournac asking me to post their latest information to those on
Arachne who might be interested to know that they are now publishing
in english.

The URL for the newsletter in English is:

I visited the museum some years ago when they were just getting
started, and even then it was a remarkable place, well worth the
effort of getting there and staying for a bit to see all they have to
offer. I know others have been there as well and enjoyed it as much
as I did, so I hope it is all right to post this message. Obviously,
I have no interest in this other than that of any lacemaker: it is
nice to see a museum able to succeed as well as they seem to be doing.

receive photos of my French grandchildren playing in the recent

Re: [lace] Retournac Lace Manufacturers Museum to reopen-exciting

2007-06-28 Thread Dmt11home
Yes, this is very exciting news. I had the pleasure of meeting Bruno Ytheir,
head of the museum last year, and I think this could be a fantastic museum
and aid to our understanding of the history of lace.

Bruno specifically asked me to encourage all the American lace clubs to
provide information for the electronic map and I encourage every club to do
so.
Why not advertise how widely lace has traveled and is practiced?

My visit with Bruno last year, during which he described the museum plans,
will be described in the upcoming IOLI Bulletin.

Now, the question is, can my husband be talked into returning to Retournac?

[lace] Retournac Lace Manufacturers Museum to reopen

2007-06-28 Thread Jane Viking Swanson
Hi All, This came today and I thought some of you might be interested.
They're about to re-open! Also they are making a map of lace groups from
around the world, all you need to do is write to them. I know some arachnes
have gotten their patterns but I think we've got enough new people who might
find this of interest.

Now comes the last straight line before the opening of the museum. The
several different firms are working hard. Everything must be ready for the
opening. The building work advances so fast that the webmaster struggles to
follow. Some new pages are already on the site to show you the assembly of
the display cabinets and a preview of what you will see when you come to
visit the new museum.
Within the next 7 days new pages will be added to the site to bring you up
to date as we near the inauguration.

[lace] Retournac Patterns

2005-02-17 Thread Jane Partridge
As nothing has been mentioned on Arachne for some time regarding the
lace patterns available from the museum at Retournac, and we have had
quite a few new Arachnes lately, I thought I would forward the message I
received tonight (and yes, my subscription is on its way!).

For those who don't know, the Museum at Retournac, France, has had a
professional lacemaker hard at work over the last couple of years,
reworking the old patterns and producing them in sets, usually of about
four or five patterns, consisting of prickings, picture of the lace and
details of its origins (this last is in French), and then sending them
out in envelopes bearing pictorial stamps, usually one set every three
to four months, sometimes longer. We are now up to set 10, with 11 ready
to order, and I think it is now two and a half to three years since the
collection started. The museum can take payment by credit card, and has
now set up a secure page for ordering over the internet. Their aim is
that the old patterns are put to use, and they are setting up a web page
to display photographs of the lace made from their patterns. Further
details are on their website at http://www.ville-retournac.fr/ and there
is an English version for those who do not understand French. (I think
they still only have one employee who speaks/writes English - she does
so far better than I do French!)

Dear friends,

As we said, we have now with the new set coming out, a subscription
system you can receive sets 11, 12 and 13 as soon as they are published
for the price of euros 50 without postage (instead of euros 52.50
without postage as it stands presently). For those of you who would
rather order singly, you still may do as before. The price moved up
slightly from euros 17.50 to euros 19. However, so as not to penalize
our faithful buyers, the set will be available for euros 18 for orders
received within 30 days of the set coming on the market.

We remind you that since September 2004, we create a virtual window of
your work executed from Retournac's design. To appear in this window,
send us a picture of each work (paper photographs which can be sent back
to you or numerical pictures in 150 ppi minimum) with your name and
Christian name, also your club if you wish. The date your work will be
shown on line will depend on how fast you send us your pictures.
