I managed to get a copy of The Royal Lacemaker from my local library.

At first I found it a bit tedious with all the evil squire has his wicked way

enjoyed the book.

I found it on Amazon for a reasonable price for a paperback. It's not great
literature but I did enjoy the story and the description of life then. The
author knows how to make bobbin lace and the description of making lace seemed
right to me though I would have liked to read more about it. A fun read.

[lace] The Royal Lacemaker, book available to USA.

2014-10-28 Thread karpap
Hi,

I want to thank Fran (I believe from Australia) who directed me to the Book
Depository.
Since this book is not for sale in the USA and is only available in the UK.
I contacted them and was able to purchase the book The Royal Lacemaker by
Linda Finlay.
I paid $8.91 for it, no delivery charges. That's about the going rate for a
paper back book in the
USA. I received the book in about a weeks time. I have read the book from
cover to cover,
couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading it and found it interesting about the
ordeals some
lacemakers went through in those days. This story had a happy ending, which I
like.
I highly recommend it.

For anyone in the USA the address for the Book Depository is:
bookdepository.com

They advertise, free delivery worldwide.

[lace] The Royal Lacemaker

2014-10-14 Thread David C COLLYER

Dear Friends,
Last night I reluctantly finished reading The Royal Lacemaker. What a
lovely read: such an unusual topic and also a page turner. It
certainly informs you about the lifestyles of the poor women who made
lace in Devon in the 1830s.

Dear Diana and others who are interested,

I asked my local book supplier about this British book. As of today, this
is what she reported back:

I (Jeri) will wait for comments from others before diverting lace book
money to buy a work of fiction.

So, somebody who is lurking - here is your chance to tell us about this
book and whether it accurately portrays lace making and the known history of
lace in the lace villages of Devon!

You don't need to wait for the book to become available in your country.

The book The Royal Lacemaker by Linda Findlay can be bought from the Book
Depository for $Aus11.97 - that is
$US10. 44 although that is the paperback price.

They ship worldwide with no charge at all for postage. I buy lots of books from
them and their service is consistently excellent.
