Re: [lace] What are you doing instead of IOLI Convention

2008-08-06 Thread M. L. Mouzon

Dear Lace Friends,

I am spending the time anticipating the arrival of granddaughter #1!!
We are going to make a trip to visit our daughter and son-in-law and
grandson #1 in about 12 days. I am making a bonnet for the baby with
smocking and a lace back of Bucks Point lace. The pattern is called
"Cinderella" by Geraldine Stott. It wasn't a hard choice since my
great-great-grandmother's name was Cinderella. She wasn't the first to
be named that either, as her mother was also a Cinderella.

I wonder what would possess a mother living in the rural south in the
early 1800's to name a little girl that. I suppose there has always
been some fascination with the story.

Then, some of us, like me, get to live our happily ever afters married
to our very own Prince Charming's; or Mr. Darcy's ...take your pick.

Dear Agnes et al
"Nunsense" is a wonderful American musical set in the convent of the
Sisters of Hoboken. They are in a most unfortunate situation. You
see, their cook, Sister Julia (Child of God) made some of her famous
Vyshesoise soup (How on earth do you spell that :) Anyway 52 of the
nuns dropped dead from food poisoning.

They managed to bury 48 of them, but then Mother Superior decided to
buy a new Video recorder for the convent and so they ran out of
money. The remaining 4 nuns are currently being stored in the freezer
in the kitchen, and so they are having a charity concert in order to
raise the funds to bury them.

It's a hilarious story, and the problem is all solved when Sister
Amnesia (who can't remember even her name since a crucifix fell on
her head) is singing a country and western number in their concert
and suddenly everything comes back. She is really Sister Mary Paul
who had won a fabulous competition at Nashville and then disappeared.
She's really very wealthy.

The music is fabulous and of course my entire ensemble will have to
wear habits :)

Apologies if this offends you Sr. Claire - but I really think you'd love it

It's sad working. B! I'm not even working on lace. Maybe next year,
sigh.

I hope to take a couple of days off next week, and be a local tourist - going
to even get a hotel room down in the French Quarter

[lace] What are you doing instead of IOLI Convention

2008-08-05 Thread David in Ballarat

Dear Friends,

the list sure is quiet. S, I thought I'd ask what you are doing this
 week lace-wise.

Not much actually - lace-wise. I have about 2 months more work to do
on this petit point portrait I'm doing in 16 shades of B&W at 50 sts
per inch. I'm managing to put in about 3 hours per day. After that I
shall get back on to my large piece of Toender and finish the last side.
