Re: [lace] UK book help
Dear David Jean Horne and Mary Hughes wrote the Little Lace Book series in the 1980's. I have the original master copies from Mary and have reprinted them. There are 12 or 13 in all. As both Jean and Mary are in their 80s now, they cannot make lace any more due to eyesight problems and do not need to make money from these little books, I usually buy them a nice box of chocolates when I have some more printed. If a lot get sold, I just might make enough to buy them a bottle of whisky each. They now cost about R15.00 which in any other currency is only worth a few cents. Jean started the Witwatersrand Lace Guild in 1980 and we are celebrating our 35th birthday this year. Mary used to paint the most beautiful bobbiins as well as make lace. Her husband Harry used to turn exquisitely fine bobbins too in indigenous wood. Harry sadly passed away about 5 or more years ago but the lacemakers here were spoiled by the 2 of them for many years. Greetings from Janis Savage in Honeydew, Gauteng, South Africa where we are having a mostly mild winter now. [lace] IOLI Convention Hotel
I heard on the grapevine today that the Anime convention ends on Sunday afternoon and they are allowing late 5:00 pm checkouts.  If you are planning on arriving on Sunday rather than Monday, please be patient while you wait for your room.  Sit down, take it easy and enjoy people watching, especially if they are in strange costumes. I'm getting excited, got my lace stuff laid out on the spare bed ready for packing.  I have to leave the house at 4:00 am for the airport because American had changed my flight to 6:50 am.  I am not a morning person!!Janice Janice Blair Murrieta, CA, 60 miles north of San Diego www.jblace.com www.lacemakersofillinois.org - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. I think there are actually 2 websites listed below, that somehow have gotten mashed together with the word USA. The websites Karen was trying to share in her signature are: www.TheShuttleSmith.com etsy.com/shop/theshuttlesmith The first is her blog which I find quite lovely to read, the second is her Etsy shop, where I saw a gorgeous shuttle… (Now, if I would ever find the time to learn to tat… :) ) Cindy from Dallas Ravelry ID:cinhad knittingyards.wordpress.com On Jul 21, 2015, at 12:20 PM, Maureen maur...@roger.karoo.co.uk wrote: I clicked on the website shown and it took me to an online casino! [lace] UK book help
Dear Friends, Recently my older sister returned from a trip to the UK and gave me a delightful little book on lace which I haven't heard mentioned before. It's called The Little Lace Book of Flowers by Jean and Mary. That's all you get - no other publishing information. It's only 13 pp long and says it has a partner called The Little Book of Christenings. Does anyone know who Jean and Mary are? thanks David in Ballarat, AUS - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. RE: [lace] UK book help
This sounds like the Little lace books published by Jean Horne and Mary Hughes in South Africa in the late 1980's. There were sanctions against South Africa so we had no lace books coming into the country. Jean and Mary decided to publish these books themselves as they could not face rejection by a publisher. There was whole series of them - Little lace book of Church lace, Little lace book of collars, Little lace book of Christmas and some others. Jean Horne also wrote the series of books on colour in lace. Jeanette Fischer in a freezing cold Western Cape, South Africa.
