[lace-chat] Ger your gyni check up

2005-10-25 Thread Janice Blair
Hi All,
Some of you know that I had a problem recently. Last year my gynicologist
retired and I put off finding another one. I thought at my age (61) and all
the clear check ups I have had which included mammograms, pap smears and
physical exams I was okay. My regular docotor nagged me to have a pap and exam
with a new docotor and she found a cyst which she described as about 4 inches
dia. Since then I had ultrasound, CTscan, saw a gynocological oncologist and
had an appointment at the hostpital for an operation all within 2 weeks. I
wasn't worried untill I read on the Internet that the average for ovarian
cancer was 61!! I was lucky the football size tumor they found was benign. My
surgeon, who wrote some of the chapters on ovarian cancer in the text books,
was amazed that it was benign. I really beat the odds!!

I came home last night from the hospital. My surgeon came to see me and
decided to discharge me even though I hadn't had a proper BM but my urine
output was good. I think the staff wanted to see me go so I couldn't complain
about the salty food and noisy nights! Actually the hospital was very nice and
the staff were great but the oncology ward does not have time for a bed to cool
down before another patient is admitted. In my short stay (Friday to Monday) I
had 3 room mates in a 2 bed room. I was also doing my walking and getting
around on my own so they knew I could cope. Now I am home and Malcolm is
waiting on me hand and foot. Literally, as today he was rubbing lotion onto my
dry legs and feet. Wonder how long I can milk this thing. :-) The staples
from my 10 inch vertical scar come out on November 8 and then it is back to sky
diving, or more likely lacemaking. I am writing this to remind you ladies to
not put off that checkup and you can bet your life I will be
 writing
a thank you to my nagging doctor.
Please don't send me lots of emails as I still have 16 digest to read and I
have to use my husbands lap top which is not easy for me as I am used to a
desktop keyboard.
