[lace-chat] SP Thank you!

2005-06-06 Thread Rita Lloyd
Hello Lynn:

It is nice to find out who you are, I have really enjoyed your SP packages.
This month was also really great!

I have always wanted a glass bobbin and a mother child is just an added
plus! It is so beautiful! I will send you a picture privately of my pillow
with the bobbin and several of the others you have sent. It also has the
bobbin pin, what a cute idea! Did you make it?

I love the pocket calendar, I needed one for my purse. My really calendar is a
daytimer and just too big for my purse, so this will come in really handy.

The earrings are great, I've never seen purple hoops like that, I really like
them.

The beautiful material you included would be perfect as placemats or hankys. I
believe that I have some pretty antique machine lace that would make a nice
border for each one.

When I make my coffee in the morning I will think of you as I drink it. Yummy,
coffee creamers

I have truly enjoyed having you as my Secret Pal. I will stay in touch..

Thanks!
Rita Lloyd

[lace-chat] Thanks to my Secret Pal

2005-05-13 Thread Rita Lloyd
Dear Secret Pal:

I love this month's pkg. Especially the flower painting book. I've always
wanted to do that technique and this book is wonderful, so detailed. I will
have to send you a sample of what I make after I get it down well.

The doll is very cute and the bag will come in really handy. I am going to see
if my gardening tools will fit in it and use it at the garden.

Your bobbins are cute, one was missing I think, there was a note from the post
office that the box was damaged and they had reclosed it. That's OK though,
I'll use one for a gimp. :-)

The shells are so pretty, I think I'll decorate a pot with them for my garden,
that will look very nice I think.

Well, secret pal, as usual you send really nice things. I look forward to next
month!

Rita

[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks

2005-04-10 Thread Rita Lloyd
Dear Secret Pal:

Once again you have found the perfect gift! The gardening book is perfect as
this summer I am starting a community garden plot in my city. I can do
anything I wish and my thought was to do a garden that I can visit from time to
time. I need it to be easy work and this book is perfect to teach me what I
need to know.

I LOVE the sewing kit, so elegant and just the size for my purse. Please tell
your Secret Pal thank you too, that was very nice of her! I really enjoying my
growing bobbin collection and bead collection. Your contributions are
wonderful.

The lace book is so cool! Some of the patterns remind me of macrame or
weaving. I imagine that is because of the popularity of those two skills and
the time the book was published. It's really terrific.

I really look forward to your boxes that arrive each month. They really cheer
me up.

Thanks again!

2005-02-20 Thread Rita Lloyd
Dear Secret Pal:

It was great to open your package again this month. I just love all of your
gifts! I'm really enjoying getting the bobbins. Now I am starting to get a
nice collection going. I've been using plain continental bobbins and didn't
have very many that were different. You are giving me some great bobbins to
show off when I do demos.

I really love the perfume and that it is called Pearls and Lace. It smells
absoilutely delicious!

I love the book on Aromatheraphy, I have a condensed version of this book by
the same author, however, this book goes into a lot more detail. It will come
in handy with my Reiki and crystal healing.

You were asking about Wicca. Well, a shortened version is this: A Wiccan
believes in God and Goddess balanced with one another and all of us. We
believe that nature and humans are one with Divinity, that we all are Divine
and as such would never harm another. I celebrate the Wheel of the Year, 8
sabbats and 8 moon rituals. We celebrate life in all of its ways, death and
life. We honor our ancestors and those who have gone before us and we honor
all animals, reptiles, birds and fish. So that gives you a small idea of what
I believe.

Also, this came shortly after my birthday, so it was an added present. I
celebrated my 50th birthday with a surprise party given to me by my closest
friends. It was such a fun time. I had black, silver and purple candles. I
had a black cake with various funny candles on it, such as a R.I.P tombstone, a
bottle of Aspirin, a book of Bran, a cane, and a pair of false teeth. And
since 50 only comes once in our life, I had a crown and a throne to sit on to
open my presents. It was a hoot!

I wanted to say how special I think it is that you shared some of your mothers
things with me. I think it is really special and I love stones ( I collect
them) so that makes the turqoius piece even nicer. I don't spangle my bobbins,
however, I do use beads and such with some of my lace pieces, these will be
really nice. I'll have to design a lace piece that incorporates the beads you
sent. I'll send you a picture when I complete it. That will be a while
though, as I am currently in the midst of making a bridal garter for a close
friend who is marrying in April. It's a torchon piece with fans and hearts in
white with gold gimps. I'm really liking how it is turning out. I've done
about 40 inches and I plan to make 60 inches so that it ruffles up really
nicely.

I was looking through my lace books and surprised myself on how many I have
now. I have Bobbin Lace Making by Pamela Nottingham, The Book of Bobbin
Lace Stitches by Bridget Cook and Geraldine Stott, Bobbin Lacemaking by
Doris Southward, Practical Skills in Bobbin Lace by Bridget Cook, The
Torchon Lace Book by Bridget Cook, The Bobbin Lace Manual by Geraldine
Stott, 100 New Bobbin Lace Patterns by Yusai Fukuyama, Minature Bobbin Lace
by Roz Snowden, Chrysanthemum Lace by Catherine Belleville and Plants and
Flowers in Lace edited by Bridget Cook. I love lace books, there is so much
to learn! :-)

Thank you so much,
I look forward to next month.

2004-03-11 Thread Rita Lloyd
Dear Secret Pal:

I am just getting back online from being unable to access my computer while I moved.
I am slowly but surely catching up on all my lace emails.

However, I was so glad that my computer is now up and working so that I could say
thank you for your lovely gifts. I just received them yesterday.

I have started a scrapbook of all of the postcards and goodies that you have sent me.
This time, though, I've decided to frame the beautiful flower card. It certainly
brightened my day and helped me to see springtime in the winter. I just love it.
What is the name of the flower?

I also really love the round hanky you sent with the violets on it. They are one of
my favorite flowers and will grace my table very nicely.

I always look forward to receiving your gifts - it is so nice that you put so much
thought into your packages.

Thank you again,
Rita Lloyd

[lace-chat] Re: secret pals and cost

2004-02-11 Thread Rita Lloyd
I wanted to comment on this as I am a Secret Pal.

I got involved because I wanted to have contact with a lacemaker in another country.
I am so interested in the different countries and learning more about them. Money and
type of gift means nothing to me, I enjoy anything from my secret pal.

I often get postcards and prickings of the styles and countryside of my Secret Pal's
country and love receiving them. I love hearing about her country and her life.

So I guess what I am saying is that the expense of the gift is not important - it is
the thought behind it.

I don't have much money myself, so I try to pick out things that might say a little
something about my country and who I am. They aren't expensive, however, I think my
secret pal likes them, as she always says so in her thank you notes. :-)

So don't let cost stop you from being a Secret Pal. Let yourself expand your world
and talk to someone new.

Regards,

Dear Secret Pal:

I just got your package yesterday and found within a wonderful surprise.

I just love the hooded bobbins! They are beautiful and they feel good in the hands.
I think I will use them for my gold gimps on the lace piece I am making for my parents
for their 50th wedding anniversary. What good timing! I was just getting ready to
wind the bobbins for the piece. I'll post my web page when I am finished so that you
can see it.

I also love the postcards. Your comments made me feel as if I was there. I collect
postcards from around the world and these will be a welcome addition. :-)

Thank you so much,
Rita Lloyd

Hello! Received your letter today with the lovely lace photos. Thank you so much!
I've been looking for some nice pictures to put into my lace frames. Now I have a few
really nice ones. I'll post the pictures on my website when I get them finished.

I really love the modern lace picture called Wassefall, though it is truly hard to
decide as all of the pictures are really nice.

Sincerely - Rita Lloyd
