Hi Alice Norfolk Lacemakers have a very large library but we cannot store them where we meet but are lucky enough to have two very good librarians who supply a list of all our books. If we want a book we simply ring or email them and they bring it to the next meeting. They used to bring four boxes of selected books to look at but as we are all not as young and able as we were it's far too much carrying about. While I have absolutely sympathy with all those poor people who have lost everything in those terrible fires, I just cannot understand that couple who went back to their home and found their dog still alive? I just could not have left without my two dogs to think they would die in the fire would just be unthinkable. [lace-chat] Fashion and Passion
If any of you are in the Norwich area on Saturday 28th November some of us from Norfolk Lacemakers will be demonstrating at Norwich Castle in the Fashion and Passion Day. It will be a wonderful day out for you, as well as Lacemakers we have fashion students, embroiderers, knitters , all will be demonstrating and teaching too. You also have the added bonus that one entry fee allows you into the whole of the castle if you have children bring them along too my own family love the Castle there us so much to see and do you can also get food and drinks. To see what there is on offer just put " Norwich Castle Fashion and Passion" into your search engine to get all the details for the day. I do hope some of you can make it , last year we had over 1000 people through it was a wonderful day. [lace-chat] Hints and tips
We have a book going at the Norfolk a lacemakers in which anyone can write down hints and tips that they have found useful, and I wondered if we could do something like this on Arachne as I have found the book very useful and have indeed used a few if the tips since. I will kick off with a tip that I find useful, and that is after working the complete spider remove the centre pin and smooth down threads until the hole disappears you will be surprised at the difference it makes to the neatness off the spider. Having nearly come to the end of a very long term project of a wide tablecloth edging, I have been contemplating joining it by the overlap method as I have been told how neat it looks, the problem is I don't know how. About 15years ago I bought an old leather sewing case at a car boot sale. I was so surprised when I opened it because the contents were in such good condition, it has a holder across the middle with 6 reels of thread 4 of which look to be silk for mending stockings, needles of all sizes wrapped in little packages which have black tissue inside, to this day they are as shiny as new, I think this case must be at least 70 years old. There are very fine crochet hooks and a ribbon threader that I use to this day but cannot bring myself to use the needles in case they snap, would hate to lose them.
