[Langcom] Re: Request for comments on approval of Batak Mandailing Wikipedia

2024-04-28 Thread Tochi Precious
I recommend the approval. I noticed the important messages have been
translated up to 100%. It's been in the incubator since 2017 and I think
keeping it active this year is a deliberate effort by them to get it out.
I have no opposing comments.

Hello Sotiale and thank you for your answer,

Sorry for my late reply as I was travelling back from Singapore and had
 also other engagements.

So regarding your argumentation, if you consider zgh not a distinct
language "because it is just a standard representation of Berber
languages", then we have also to consider standard Arabic (ISO
639:ara) not a distinct language because it is not spoken in any
country/region and is "a standard representation of Arabic languages". Of
course, there are many more sources and books in standard Arabic due to
religious and historical reasons, but it is still a standardized language,
and only a written one. This said, it will of course never be considered to
close the Arabic Wikipedia because of it. Therefore, it can be really
tricky to base the decisions on this argument, although it is
understandable that some languages are "bigger" or more established than
 others. What do you think?

 Best regards,

 Anass

[Langcom] Re: Suggested approval of the Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia

2023-04-07 Thread Tochi Precious
Glad to hear this Jon.
Yes, I can get individual contacts of the people working in the Ghanaian
pidgin project. Let me reach out to them.

[Langcom] Re: Starting Wikipedia Incubator in Dendi

2023-04-03 Thread Tochi Precious
>From my experience, I think something that might be useful to them in the
beginning is:

   - Have at least 6 to 10 people constantly contributing to the project.
   (Keep it active)
   - Aim to keep it active at least for a period of 6 months
   - Create upto 300 articles within this period.
   - Someone very savvy in the language can become an admin to clean up the
   mess that would be made.
   - Use Translatewiki to localize the Main Page.

This is what I usually advise.

[Langcom] Update on Igbo Wiktionary Status in the incubator

2021-09-12 Thread Tochi Precious
Hello
Trust this email finds you well.
My name is Tochi Precious, one of the founding members of the Igbo
Wikimedians User Group.

I'm writing to find out the update about Igbo Wiktionary which is a project
in the incubator. There has been active contributions and we were told at
the end of last year that the project has been approved to leave the
Incubator. Since then, we've tried to reach out and no response.

We would like to find out what's happening and what we have to do next.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best
Tochi
