Yes, Lazarus even supports Linux first before Windows. So no, no stupid
emulation through Wine required. Everything is NATIVE. I use it on my
Kubuntu 12.10.

And for that matter, I use it on SPARC, ARM and PPC, and occasionally on
Solaris. Some people use FreeBSD, others OS X. So let's scotch that ugly
rumour :-)

Hi George, welcome to Lazarus!. You don't need Wine, with Lazarus you
can create native Linux apps, and even Cross-Compile them from Linux to
Windows without changes.

An easy way to install Lazarus for newcomers, is using CodeTyphon:

1) Download from:
http://www.pilotlogic.com/sitejoom/index.php/codetyphon/codetyphon-download

2) Read the quick installation procedure:
http://www.pilotlogic.com/codetyphon/help/index.html?quick_installation_procedure.htm

BTW, I don't use CodeTyphon, but I find it great for new users. I prefer
to get the sources using SVN then compile and install.

Regards,

Welcome George!
I installed only fpc via software manager (.deb) and lazarus happily
via source (.snv) in home. You do not need wine, just write your code,
compile and run.

Re: [Lazarus] New Lazarus User

2013-01-04 Thread Curt Carpenter

Hello George:

I'm using Lazarus on a PC running Ubuntu 12.04.

I had problems installing Lazarus using the Ubuntu Software Manager
-- but you will find a good set of install instructions here.

Once you get it installed, it works great, and I had no problems
moving my old Lazarus programs from windows to Linux.

Lazarus is a native application in Linux. You can choose the GTK(2) or
Qt execution, but it's native, not a hack with wine or anything like that.

Thanks

All,

I just ordered my first all Ubuntu laptop and since I like Delphi I noticed
Lazarus.

Can Lazarus run and are people using Lazarus on Ubuntu 12.10 and does it use
Wine.

Thanks
