 Hi,

We're building a squid box and testing Being-uClibc 3.0 at
 the same time.
I'm trying to enable DMA for the CD and HDD in the box.

Just out of plain curiosity, do you have these devices on the
same cable, or each to it's own controller?

 But:

 hdparm -d 1 /dev/had

 gets me:

HDIO set dma failed: operation not permitted

Watch out for the typo '/dev/had' is not the same
as '/dev/hda' :)

 It's a PIII machine with i810 and ICH (82801AA)

Anybody have any idea what's going wrong here?

 Thanks,

 James.

Luis Correia

Hi James,

Maybe your chipset needs a linux driver for DMA? If that's true, you can
add the driver to the moddb and enable it in /etc/modules.

Hi James,

 Hi,

That's what I'm beginning to think. Of course, I have absolutely no idea
how to go about finding out if I do and which module it is.

You could take a look at the bootmessages to see which IDE controller is
detected, or you could try something like the piix module.

Does anybody know of somewhere where these kernel modules are
 documented?

Probably only in the linux source...

 Thanks,

 James.

It's not necessary to load it before moddb, but if you really want it
should be included and loaded in initrd.lrp.
You have to do that on a different system...
