I agree with Colins comments - he has had some games and some 'average' (read

Glad to see the aim is to bring in better players than him

2012-04-20 Thread Paul Tweney
Last one was a download of the Fire EP by Orianthi. Is that a collective
who? I hear from the List?

She's Australian of Greek descent. She's Alice Cooper's lead guitarist as
would have been Michael Jackson's lead guitarist on the tour that was been
planned when he died. At 15 she played for Steve Vai, she's also opened for
ZZ Top (aged 17) and she opened for with Carlos Santana at 18. Wrote and
recorded her first album aged 20. Her latest EP was produced by some bloke
called Dave Stewart - apparently he's quite big in the music world as well!

Maverick.

First single's easy - off we all go on a nostalgic orgy that's only
missing

some olive oil and naked wrestling to prove that we're real men. But the
real test is what was the last single you bought? Are you proud of your
Black Eyed Peas dirty bits? Or did you buy that Gilbert Sullivan song
off

iTunes that you've been humming ever since you've been middle aged?

Damian ;)

2012-04-20 Thread Ted
First single I had bought for me: The Flintstones Theme (on orange vinyl no
less!)

First single I bought - not too sure but I think it was Queen - Killer
Queen

First Album: Queen - Sheer Heart Attack (I think)

First gig: Sparks - York Uni

Best Gigs: Two-Tone Tour (79ish? Bradford Newcastle), Clash - Newcastle
(79-80), any Meteors gig! Motorhead (Vegas), any Stranglers Gig! (saw them
first about 78 and seen them nearly every year since - still brilliant
live, even with Jet Black rapidly approaching 74 years of age!!)

Worst Gigs: Icicle Works, Men They Couldn't Hang (they should have tried
harder!!!), Birthday Party, The Fall.

Re: [LU] NONLU I'm bored, so howabout vinyl thread?

2012-04-20 Thread Tim Leslie
Just downloaded Lions Roar by First Aid Kit http://thisisfirstaidkit.com/
the sign that I am knocking on a bit now is I heard this on Radio 2!
Cannot stop listening to that new Richard Hawley single (Not yet released)
off the Mark Radcliffe Tuesday night show. It's superb and has a cracking
Neil Young'eque rock out guitar break in the middle.

Last one was a download of the Fire EP by Orianthi. Is that a collective
who? I hear from the List?

She's Australian of Greek descent. She's Alice Cooper's lead guitarist as
would have been Michael Jackson's lead guitarist on the tour that was been
planned when he died. At 15 she played for Steve Vai, she's also opened
 for
ZZ Top (aged 17) and she opened for with Carlos Santana at 18. Wrote and
recorded her first album aged 20. Her latest EP was produced by some bloke
called Dave Stewart - apparently he's quite big in the music world as
 well!

 Damian ;)

If teenage female guitar prodigies are your thing, then you could do worse
than check out Joanne Shaw Taylor. Discovered at aged 16 by that man Dave
Stewart again (starting to have my suspicions about him!) Kind of like a
girl version of Jonny Lang, but from Birmingham...

Hmmm, I remember that one as being a bit wet, but we were quite far back to
get the full effect. My choice could have been any one of about 8 times at
Glasto, but specifically the one that stands out despite the chemical haze
was in the main stage in 2000 closely followed by in the Dance Tent in 1999.

I don't think I've ever been to a worst gig, I've enjoyed them all with the
possible exception of Sta-Prest at the Albermarle in Romford when we were
too scared of getting killed by skinheads to concentrate on enjoying
ourselves (*).

But some of the best gigs have been surprising ones. Both Hi-Tension and
Darts were absolutely fantastic - I wouldn't have paid to see either but I
was earning my £1 an hour as a bouncer and so got to bop to a couple of
great sets I would have missed by unwarranted snobbishness otherwise.

Although it has to be said that Haircut 100 were headlining the bill on the
Hi-Tension gig and they were as shite as Hi-Tension were good.

(*) I helped the band load their van after the set by taking a speaker
into the van and hiding behind it until they'd finally shut the van door.

All I know is my Dad got an OBE many years ago and I was proud as punch that he
did, even though I've not really got much of a clue what it was for beyond the
fact he was involved in the UN's resolutions on the International Law of the
Sea back in the day. He popped his clogs in February but left me his OBE in his
will.
Hats off to Sir Dad.
