[LU] for ROTL - Is Jones talking rubbish or am I wrong
“It doesn’t matter if it’s intentional or not. If it is going in the back of the net and it hits him, it’s a penalty. The above is an actual quote from Jones about the 'Pearce handball' on Saturday Now I accept that if it had been a Wed player who had done it I would be screaming for a penalty and claiming we were robbed etc BUT unless my understanding of the rules is totally wrong, surely a handball has to be deliberate ? To me 'deliberate' and 'intentional' mean exactly the same thing Can any ref on the list or anyone who knows tell me if me or Jones are correct ? Re: [LU] for ROTL - Is Jones talking rubbish or am I wrong
I don't know the ins and outs but if you were arguing that the sky is green and David F. Jones argued that it is in fact blue, I'd be on your side mate. In terms of the letter of the law my understanding was it is illegal to touch the ball with your arm or hand, and a free kick is awarded (or penalty in the box) when you do. Now, if its unavoidable it seems to me to be in the spirit of the game that play continues. Jones seems to be inserting a new variable - that even if the it is unavoidable, provided a goal would have been scored but for the infringement, then a penalty is awarded. In my view he's talking horse shit. But that's not new for him. Sent from my iPhone On 19/08/2013, at 19:10, nat...@sky.com nat...@sky.com wrote: “It doesn’t matter if it’s intentional or not. It's not even true to say that a goal was prevented when the goal hit Pearce's arm. Pearce blocked the shot with his body and the ball was going straight up in the air when it hit his hand. Given that it struck his arm accidentally it was not a penalty anyway. Tim W. He's on nothing like £30k. I bet top wage at Norwich is less than half that. And Becchio won't be anywhere near their top wage. He'll be on £8-10k a week tops.
