What's that all about? I variously watched last night's game via either the
LUFC stream or via the iFollow website's stream (which had the Preston
commentators). Booth had multi-cameras, close-ups, replays etc. Why don't Sky
get to use that feed?

Re: [LU] Preston

2018-09-19 Thread {broken-address}
We’re not always perfect to watch, but fuck me we are exciting! At the start of
the Bielsa Project he specifically said we might give the ball away at times
but we’d fight to get it back. Ayling, 4 times in the first 15 minutes, bought
into this philosophy big time! Cooper too to a lesser extent. However, the way
we work and work and work is a revelation, and exciting. OK, Preston could have
scored a couple early on, but we deserved a sackful last night.

Either Clarke or Edmundson should have got a trot out last night, and maybe
both, but for the first time in years I’m happy to concede we have a manager
who knows more than me, so presumably there’s some method at play?

Roberts was a bit part player for long periods, but 2 goals will really help
him. Harrison has started to impress too - very nimble feet - there’s a bit of
a Carl Harris in the making. I thought Phillips had one of his best games last
night - the odd error, but mopped up nicely and ran and ran!

One thing I would be critical off, aside from giving the ball away in our half,
is the quality of crossing from the left - Alioski and also Douglas need to get
practising!

One other thing too - the pointless bookings. I did quite like our time-wasting
later on after the farting around PNE employed, but the daft trips will cost us
later in the season if it continues - Alioski, Saiz take note!

Watching it on the red button is crap though - one camera, no close-ups, no
replays, and a commentator bred in Dullsville!

Lol ... yes I was going to say that it was without doubt the worst 2 goal

think we have take into account his lack of football over the last 12 months. I
think Saturday is a big game for Roberts.

To be honest that was the one criticism I had of MB last night - I thought it
was a decent touch taking Roberts off to applause , although part of me thought
it may be better to have left him on with a chance of a hat-trickBut I felt he
got it totally wrong with Forshaw - the lad is just coming back from (another)
injury and has had 15mins or so v Millwall and 45 in the u23s on Monday so to
me it was risking him getting injured by not being properly warmed up when we
did not need him on the pitch - why not give Edmunson or even better Clarke- it
would be Clarkes debut- a few minutes on the pitch -The worst that could happen
would be them giving the ball away and costing us a goal that would not have
affected the game- neither here nor there, whereas the upside making or even
better scoring a goal , again not affecting last nights result but could be a
massive boost for them going forward. What better chance to 'blood' a
youngster, and I fully expect Clarke to be a first team player
by the end of the season, than when you are 3 0 up at home v a team near the
bottom and with 5 or 10 minutes to go ?
As for making 3 subs in the last 5 minutes of normal time, I just don't get it
- we did not need to waste time or kill the game so what is the point ?
Having said that this is real nit-picking after a great performance - yes
Preston are poor but teams like this still need putting to the sword and we did
that with style and aplomb.
As for Roberts I thought his pre goal(s) performance was a mixed bag - he had
some decent touches and link up play and he again got into good positions BUT
he really lacked confidence / killer instinct up until the first goal - he was
easily shrugged off the ball and wanted to pass it into the net rather than
putting his laces through it. His touch for the first goal was brilliant. As
Rich (?) posted Saturday will be a big test for him - will the 2 goals be the
kick start ?I think we do need to remember he is only 19 and has not played
much football and has been injured for a long time. I was saying beforehand
that the fans needed to support him and not get on his back if he continued to
miss chances and I think, for the most part, they did that.
It does mean that we can wait for Roofe to be fully fit rather than taking a

performance I've ever seen. Only Becchio could come close to it, however I do
think we have take into account his lack of football over the last 12 months. I
think Saturday is a big game for Roberts.

Subs - not on long.

This is something that really winds me up.

Long term plan/style of play is very intensive, the squad isn't rotated much
beyond cup games, so why don't some players (Bamford was waiting in the wings,
Hernandez is old) get subbed for meaningful game time?

Now some of them are injured...?

It's hard getting into the gist of a game, mentally, physically etc. so late in
the game and the exercise benefit is negligible [of being subbed on so late] -
worse so if they don't warm up (I never seem to see subs warming up under him -
maybe I'm not noticing it)

could have been 7. Apart from first 10 mins and 5 minutes in 2nd half we were
much better team. Really good performance against a team who will be relegated
this season.
Scores:
Peacock - 8. Not much to do. One disallowed goal, a good early save, a few
back pass type shots and one dodgy cross that he had to parry in first half
Ayling - 7. Shocking start where he just kept losing out but he steadied and
played well
Douglas - 7. Steady away - decent going forward
Cooper - 8. One dodgy pass that put us under ressure but overall great
defending. Scored as well, really cant expect anymore from a captain and you
have to say that he is one of the most improved players from last season.
Jansson - 9. Rock solid defending. Back to his best
Siaz - 9. At the heart of everything. Needs a goal.
Philips - 8. One or two dodgy passes and tackles but overall I thought he was
very impressive albeit against pedestrian opposition.
Klich - 8. Should have had 2 but overall I thought he was very impressive. He's
strong, plays great football and is a strong runner. I think he's a great
player. See his cross for Robert's second goal.
Allioski - 7. Lively but annoying.
Harrison - 7. Lively first half, quiet second and should have had a goal after
a great ball through from Siaz
Roberts - 6. Really pleased for the lad. He took his goal well after a good
goal from Philips and then looked like he wanted the ball. He was terrible
first half and I would have considered taking him off but all credit to him.
Hopefully he can kick on against Brum.
Subs - not on long.

[LU] Preston

2018-09-19 Thread nat...@sky.com
Start to believe people - the future is white
After 3 draws in the last four and a bit of a physical pounding , which we
mainly withstood, in the last two games , the question tonight was could we
return to the lovely free flowing football that we did at the start of the
season, and could we do it without a recognised centre forward

Well last night showed that we are the real deal. So often in the past we have
earned a few hard points away from home and then expected 6 pts from 'easy'
home games only to be disappointed, well we did not disappoint last night
Preston came at us right from the off, chasing, harrying, fighting for every
ball - they really were a whirlwind and to be honest, we were struggling to
withstand it. BPF had to make 2 good saves, one a diving stop from a curler ,
the other a tip over the bar. So after 10 minutes we were perhaps fortunate to
not be a goal down, but that was it (till a brief spell in the second half)
from Preston, they had blown themselves out. We stepped it up a gear and that
was that.

We coud and should have had ore than the 3 goals, - Klich, so impressive in
front of goal this season missed two when put clean through, one an brilliant
pass by Harrison, later to hit the post himself, Pontus missed a diving header
from a Douglas cross that he should have scored, Roberts was through one on one
with the keeper but chose to fall over when he felt the slightest touch,
Alioski was also put through and scored but was offside. SO we could have had a
lot more
Pulling the strings throughout was a master class from Saiz - I love watching
this lad play when he is on song, and he was on song yesterday
We nearly suffered for this misses when we allowed Preston a ten minute spell
in the second half at 1 1 but we kept them out and with two good goals from
Roberts we finished them off
The goals - a corner was met by Cooper falling over and he seemed to shin it
past the keeper who should have done better
Roberts' two goals were both excellent - the first a lovely ball from Phillips
which he took down with a sublime touch and chipped over the keeper - great
finish. The second a flowing move found Klich on the edge of the box - he
looked up and chipped it right onto ROberts' head and he did the rest. On this
showing ROberts is a real find and Roofe and Bamford should be worried about
getting back in. Bielsa gave him his chance for adulation by subbing him when
the game was all but over
So like I say, start to believe, and if you dont take my word for it - take the
word of the fans 27.5K there last night and it is already sold out for Saturday
- we are on the move - and I am loving it !!!
