Why haven't we worked out a way of playing against these physical teams

Listers will be touched to hear that amongst several items placed on a
 table
at the front, to represent the important things in Padraig's life, were a
Leeds United shirt and a charger cable for a laptop, which I think are
particularly poignant in our little sphere of contact. 'We' were also
mentioned by his family when they spoke, and there was even a prayer read
out to all people in supporters groups - Padraig was also active on other
Internet groups, to do with his charity cycling activities etc.

It was a moving ceremony, and I was happy to be there to help represent the
 List.

Padraig was a top bloke, and he will clearly be missed by many...

 List Folks,

I made it up to the removal last night near Dun Laoghaire but missed the
funeral home part as I got lost en route - I don't

go to Dublin that often and the place has changed a lot since

I worked up there over 25 years ago.

I made my way back to PO'C's home though, and was invited in where I spent
the guts of an hour trying to explain what mailing lists, list meets,
MOALMs, Adelphi/Britannia pub crawls were all about.

His wife, kids and Brid were really appreciative of the efforts I made to
 be
there and passed along their best regards to all of you.

 We did our bit!

 James.

[LU] Things I love...

2013-02-17 Thread Andrew Ewart
Whilst it's true I've been roaming the globe for years there are some
things that bring a huge smile to my face in defeat and adversity...which
of course has been most of the last 10 years or so...but to my fading
memory some of the best times have been away matches when we've been
outclassed on the pitch but not on the terraces.

Today's match in Manchester just brings back all the reasons I love
supporting Leeds...hearing (or rather twitter watching as I'm blind to tv
coverage here in Burma) the chant we lose every week, we lose every week,
you're nothing special, we lose very week it's what I have loved for 30
years about being in an away end full of Leeds fans having a laugh win,
lose or draw...and it seems the more we lose the better we get at having a
laugh as there's nothing left but to laugh at ourselves.

We all want to be back at the top but then we'll have a million and one
fair-weather fans. I well remember sitting at the home leg of the Chumps
Lge semi-final next to a couple of guys in suits who couldn't name a Leeds
player...it drove me nuts! Long may we have the best self piss taking fans
off the world!!!

Best quote, After an exciting season here at Elland Road as we push for
promotion to the Barclays Premier League, why not join the Leeds United
management and players for our annual Members End Of Season Awards Dinner

And... This is our most eagerly anticipated event of the year, where we
reward the players for their hard work and dedication throughout the season

Maybe next year.

Re: [LU] 1950???

2012-03-28 Thread Andrew Ewart
Think I joined around 96/97 sometime after the Villa debacle. Definitely
wasn't around during the fizzy pop fiasco MOALM as I was based in Oslo then
and travelled over with a plane full of mad Noggies.

Remember the Valencia chants well...before I got totally smashed. God only
knows what that Argie guy was putting in his Agua de Valencia but I had
the biggest hangover of my life the day after and I was still off the booze
by the time we kicked off the next night...the scoreline didn't help but I
drowned my sorrows as best I could back in the Argie bar. Two big things I
remember from Valencia, 1. the local guy (Xavier) that handed 6 tickets at
face value to Jabba for distribution to those (mostly listers) without
tickets before taking us on a tour of the drinking establishments of
Valencia...when we finally caught up with the listers me and Jabba were
bladdered already. 2. Betty disappearing and later returning to the Argie
bar with a Leeds shirt for the owner...which he then proudly displayed
behind the barhe must have made a years takings that night!

Oh and Guy snoring on the floor of our hotel room...lol

Re: [LU] Subject now is Ye Liste Meete of olde

2012-01-12 Thread Andrew Ewart
I think it all began for me around 1996 or perhaps 1997 and I've been a
long time lurker and occasional poster ever since. I may be able to claim
the most travelled lister as I've come under the various monikers:

Kingston Whites
Pimlico Whites
Dublin Whites
Canberra Whites
and currently Rangoon Whites

Had the pleasure of timing the Pimlico Whites leg of my world tour with the
Chumps League season and met most of the infamous list characters in
various Yerpean cities.

I recall being affectionately known as Jabba's Bitch as his missus never
used the away season ticket of hers and I became Mrs Jabba that
seasonbeating Liverpool at Anfield was a league highlight of that year
even with the 4am start from central London for the mid-day kick off.
Thirkers taking the p1ss out of everyone on the train from Liverpool St to
Upton Park stands out as well...poor Verner took the brunt I think. The
locals on the train didn't know whether to laugh or get off at the first
available station! Also travelled to plenty of Wafer Cup matches from
Dublin. 5 a side footie in the inflatable pitch in Eindhoven springs to
mind...even Ridsdale turned up to present the trophy...back when we liked
him.

Still very much in touch with a few of the guys that I met over beers in
London, Leeds and various other towns and cities across England. Some
stayed with me in Dublin for a pre-season friendly. Great days indeed.
I'd love to be at a 2011 MOALM but I very much doubt I'll make it from
Burma. Have several beers for me.
