Re: [LU] Fwd: Prolonging the agony

To be fair, I think we're doing pretty well considering we start every game
with 10 men.

Roca HAS to go. Jonathan Douglas could do a better job.

Grim is definitely a good description of the situation. We are now relying on 3
teams being worse than us but I honestly don’t there are.Leicester showed they
can play a bit and were  far too good to us. Maddison is an annoying twat but
he’s streets ahead of Roca and Vardy at 52 years old is simply a better striker
than Bamford will ever be.Yes, first half we gave them a game, mainly through
effort rather than intelligent play. McKennie and Rodrigo in particular upped
their effort and really made a difference and we harried Leicester into making
mistakes and scored a good goal.So going in ahead at half-time , the mood in
the stands was fairly positive but that soon changed when you realised that we
couldn’t keep that up and Leicester realised that with their midfield they
could take us apart at will, and they did. It was wave after wave of blue
shirts moving forward into our box and we couldn’t stop it. Gracia dithered
with his subs - he was having a conference with his staff for 10 mins before he
finally made a decision and that was eventually forced as Rodrigo was out on
his feet and running the risk of getting sent off. Gracie’s answer wasn’t Willy
or 35 million pound Rutter but Aaronson. I thought the bloke near me was going
to have a fit - he was livid and so we’re a lot of fans. I was hoping Aaronson
could have more of an impact as a sub against tired legs but like his whole
season, he was unable to make an impact.Roca, who had been poor throughout, was
out on his feet from 60 mins but Gracia kept him on as Maddison and co danced
around him. At least Marsch used to replace Roca regularly in the 2nd half, I
actually think Gracia doesn’t know his players (that’s not altogether
surprising) but he also doesn’t look like he knows a system that will suit
them. We go from pushing on to being ultra defensive and sitting back. It’s
awful to watch. To be fair, the crowd stayed with the team and I only heard a
few Orta out chants from the Kop after the final whistle but if truth be told
Leicester should have walked this and it could have been another Palace if
Meslier hadn’t made a couple of top class saves and Leicester hadn’t been
unlucky with 2 off side goals.I think the writing is on the wall.
Meslier - 8 Kept is in the game
Ayling - 6. Barnes was subbed and scored so you could argue he did his job, but
like all the defence he really struggled 2nd half Firpo - 3 Offered nothing
going forward and struggled in defence. Summerville did a better job at left
back Cooper - 6. Battled hard but couldn’t cope with the blue wave once out
midfield had collapsed Koch - 5. Ditto Roca - 3. I’ve said all there is to say,
he’s not good enough. He gave the ball away repeatedly and even his half decent
looking passes rarely reach their intended target. Has to be dropped. I’d play
Forshaw and any of the U-21s in his place. Total liability.
McKennie- 6. Great first half, stepped it up but ran out of steam 2nd half.
Harrison- 7. Probably our best player on the night. Tried constantly to make
things happen but his final ball at times is lacking.
Rodrigo- 8. All for effort. He was like a raging bull and the crowd appreciated
that. Ran out of steam 2nd half but he’d fine his bit. Bamford -3. Poor. Missed
the sitter at the end and nobody was surprised. He’s a confidence player and
he’s got none. Compare to Vardy - he was always going to score, his body
language is positive- Bamford is the total opposite.
Sinistera- 6. Great goal but then got injured which seems to be the story of
his Leeds career.
Subs
Summerville- 5. Played as an extra left back. Never seen him make so many
tackles. Criminal.
Gnonto - just sat on the bench stroking his massive cock

Adams, there might be a player in there. Kristensen, played significant roles
in the goals we've conceded. Roca - reminds me of Sean Gregan - it's been a
pleasure not to have to watch players like this under Bielsa.

Monday morning and I am still seething about Marsch. I always feared he was all
talk and no trousers, and here was proof. He had said he was in favour of 5
subs b/c he liked the idea of fresh legs keeping up his high-pressure
style...he also said that he was very experienced coaching and managing
teams in oppressive heat.FINALLY, we had some experienced and talented
players on the bench rather than the squad of spotty teenagers we used to
populate it with last season..it was officially the hottest day ever in
the Premier League.we were 2-0 up with 20 mins to go...Adams &
Roca (both of whom, unlike apparently the rest of you, I really like the look
of) had run Soton ragged in midfield...BRING ON FORSHAW & KLICH
FFS!...my grandmother could have seen that was the obvious thing to
do (and she's been in her grave these 30 years.)

Marsch threw away 2 points which, with Chel, Brighton(a) & B/ford(a) as 3 of
our next 4 opponents could be very precious. It also makes our home game v Fat
Frank's Shambles an absoilute must-win now.

Seething!

That t-shirt was a risky move.
Yes, we drew, but if we lost, it would have been used as a rod to beat us with.
Hard to believe that Bielsa was happy doing this due to the risks inherent in
the move.  Was he overruled?  It distracted the team from the job at hand:
beating the Merseyside Reds etc.
Liverpool are right to be annoyed with them being left in their dressingroom
afterwards.  What would they have done with it if they had won the game?
Put the shoe on the other foot - how would we have felt with a cheap move like
that?
James.

…and Bielsa again used his bench effectively - bringing Pablo on at half time -
he set up Cooper for the 3rd, before scoring the 4th.

Route 1, 60 yard ball over the top from Ayling, first touch finish by Bamford

Enjoyed that.

But what was their defender thinking for that penalty..?

Yeah maybe mate. A few glasses of vino Tinto have mellowed me but I still
believe that the performance today was simply not good enough.

And when you’re talking about defending you’ve got to look at their goal, the
long throw-in and what a dog’s dinner we made of it. Also, the last 5 mins I’d
say was the poorest we’ve played in the last 3 seasons and that’s fucking
saying something. Cooper , Jansson , Ayling and Douglass - it was like watching
the fucking circus.

Actually, no I’m sticking to my guns, we were shit today, v. Lucky to get a
point against what I thought was a v. Poor Millwall team. We can’t pretend that
this was good enough. Without Pablo we are not the same team,

different result. Something Thomas appears good at.

I'd give Roofe a go up top like you, but it leaves our most creative player out.

How's about:

Lonergan

Pennington Jansson Shaghnessy
Ayling Dallas/Alioski
O'kane Viera
 Saiz
Roofe Lasogga

Or maybe Hernandez instead of Dallas, but I really think Stu deservers a start.

Regardless of the high-profile departures and regardless of the sums involved,
I think this summer has, for us, completed a transition from a selling club to
a buying club.

And credit where it is due - Cellino started off that transition, and I don't
think that we would be anywhere near where we are today without him.
Football being what it is, I'm sure that one day or another someone else would
have turned up but be that as it may, we truly can hail Cellino as the Saviour
of Leeds (at least for this boom & bust cycle anyway).

I'd buy him a beer.

This could be a moment in history for this list, I don't ever post a match
report. But I want to.
Apart from Wood's lucky poke - yes he was in the right place and lucky that
their defender didn't get a toe to it to spoil it all - we were crap in the
first half.
I have no idea why Charlie Taylor is being overlooked for Berardi, apart
from injury. Every pass in the first 30 mins that Berardi made went to
nowhere or a Brum player.
Jansson played a lot better than he did on the last run out, so cannot
understand the list's criticism of his workrate.
Dallas is not a winger. Doukara is a waste of money. Where was Viera?
First half, the midfield was crap and it took a creative punt by the right back
to set up the centre forward for a lucky poke.

O'Kane did NOT get one mention by the commentary team in the first half, yet he
had the audacity to look aggrieved when he was substituted for Phillips.
And then what a transformation. Phillips played like he knew (at last)
what the hell to do with the ball, brilliant build up for the second, and Wood
gets another!
Suddenly the team started to control the pace, didn't look too much under
pressure, but still couldn't control the midfield!
Bring on a sub - a 20 year old Spaniard who is supposed to be a star in the
making, five minutes later he scores a goal worthy of Lionel Messi!
Fans go wild, I grin and finish my cup of tea at 8.40am Saturday morning.

Nowhere near good enough to win the playoffs, so I see another season out of
the top flight

cheers

As I said I'm in the minority , probably of one on this list but what is the
alternative ? I think he's not out to screw the club , he is a supporter of the
club, and it's his own money. We haven't ever had an owner like that. Plenty of
owners looking out for themselves and making sure they take their pay from the
club. Ok he's a bit mad, but compared to GFH and co I'll take him any day.
Let's see what happens in the Summer ? If the fans haven't turfed him out by

Accept I'm in the minority here but I think Cellino spoke a lot of sense in
that interview (even if he was half pissed) Steve Evans has spent the last 2
weeks basically pleading through the media for his job next season and I
totally agree with Cellino that he should shut up and concentrate on the team
and why he continues to lose us games through playing Wooton at right back. So
I think it was a great decision to stop Evans from talking to the media
following the defeat and to be honest it worked because the last thing us fans
wanted to hear was Evans's excuses. It was a bad night we have to move on to
Bolton to get a result. Also, I accept his reasons for leaving at half time. He
was embarrassed, I would have also considered leaving at half-time. I know
people who have met Cellino and he really is a supporter of this club. You can
choose to believe that or not. I also liked his statement that fans are better
than the team. Obvious but completely true ! Cellino IN for me. F

You are completely wrong.
Look at the monies he has made by selling and then compare with the lunatic
buys he made.
Most of the money is going to GFH - because Cellino doesn't do DD & the money
haemorrhaged on dud but still paid watermelons. We are probably spending more
on lawyers than the cunt Bates.
But let's blame Krasner - why not add Silver too?

Not a single member of the Leeds squad was born the last time Leeds defeated
Cardiff.
It was also their first win against Cardiff City in a very long time. The
club have not defeated the Bluebirds since 1984 and that brings up a
startling fact as pointed out by Yorkshire Post journalist Lee Sobot on
Twitter. Not a single player in the Leeds United matchday squad was born
when Leeds defeated Cardiff 1-0 in the old Division Two. That run has
stretched 17 games and 31 years. Leeds's oldest squad member for the game
last night was Mirco Antenucci. He was born three months after the last time
Leeds defeated Cardiff City which surely highlights the real youth in this
Leeds squad.

I don't see how either of you can deduce that. Maybe a better approach to
gossip, although that's what you're both replying to... But we've signed a
youth goalkeeper from cardiff and a striker from Motherwell who has played a
dozen games for the first team.

It's all interesting, but I don't see a plan.

It does seem better, doesn't it. As for the last time there seemed to be a
really intelligent approach to transfers that would be..uhhhm, hang
on..well, I can't remember when that last was.

John Lee:

There's a clear, and seemingly, planned approach being taken to transfer
targets this close-season, as opposed to the madness when Cellino first
appeared. I'll reserve judgement on Uwe Rossler, but so far he appears to be
very professional and thorough, which is in stark contrast to the recent
past.
Maybe aiming for top third than a simple aspiration of avoiding relegation
might be justified this season? Famous last words I know, but it all seems
very business-like and planned! Not like LUFC at all!

LIE: from The Guardian's report of his visit:
The Fifa president, Sepp Blatter – who is seeking a compromise to head off the
vote – arrived in Jerusalem on Tuesday for talks with the Israeli prime
minister,Binyamin Netanyahu
http://www.theguardian.com/world/binyamin-netanyahu, and the Palestinian
president, Mahmoud Abbas. Blatter has made no bones about his own opposition to
the proposed vote, due to take place in 10 days, suggesting at a press
conference that the motion was an abuse of Fifa statutes and “inappropriate”.

We are shits in a lot of ways
TRUE

but that was not one of them includes
soccer.
GRAMMATICALLY GARBLED LIE: From the same Guardian report:

The draft Palestinian resolution lists six key arguments for Israel’s
suspension, which include:

   - “Humiliating treatment at the border by the relevant Israeli
authorities to both Palestinian players/officials and foreign delegations
   including Fifa.”
   - “Violent acts by Israeli security forces during football matches (for
example stoppage of matches, training sessions, arrests) and/or closure of
clubs without explanation in areas under the authority of the Palestinian
   National Authority.”
   - On another topic. My book is getting excellent reviews-- from people
   that I
   don't know.
   - PATHETIC.

Well by my reckoning that makes about 16 midfield/attacking midfield
players:
Byram, Cook, Austin, Murphy, Mowatt, Bianchi, Tonge, Adryan, Sloth,
Montenegro, Benedicic, Dawson, White, Thomson, Norris and now Ngoyi. Not
forgetting Ajose or whatever his name is, out on loan.

Is this bloke gonna be any better that half of them? If we could get rid of
5 or 6 who are nowhere near 1st choice at the moment and never will be, the
club might be able to afford one decent player.

Re: [LU] Advice please - Betting at Elland Road on Matchday

2014-10-31 Thread Ben Thorpe
I don't know about the mobile usability of specific bookmakers. But I do run
a little website on the side that has a comprehensive list of bookmakers
sign-up offers and how to make money out of them using a system known as
matched betting.

Have a look at http://www.oddstrick.com - it could be a way of you trying a
few out and making a few extra notes at the same time. The top 20 or so are
the most reliable from my experience.

Personally I tend to use Betfair more often than not if I'm betting online.

Despite the crap odds I have been using Skybet for having a little tickle on
the game. Its good for scorecasts and half/full-time bets ie ones that are
not normally available using national bookies on line.

Anyway, long story short I am done with Skybet. Mentioned the crap odds, had
problems with getting my winnings back last season and now they are refusing
to pay on a few quid I won on Wolves game which means I will now have to
line up with rest of winners at NE corner after Charlton game. So that is it
finish.

I want to use an online betting service which I can place my bets whilst at
ER so I know the lineup where I can do scorecasts, both teams scoring etc
but really looking from advice from fellow listers who bet online please.

I only have Galaxy S4 so I want a site I can navigate easily and quickly.

I hate the way people on this list, and elsewhere, casually hold up mourinho
as the gold standard of all managers. He is actually a horrible
self-important arrogant shit, and while I concede that none of those
qualities necessarily prevent him from being a good manager (and yes Ok they
are probably positive attributes in that context) I really don't think his
record is that great given the incredible squads he has always been given to
work with.

Anyway back to the game today, just heading off. Is Mowatt fit, and if so
will he get in the team?

I hate the way people on this list, and elsewhere, casually hold up
mourinho as the gold standard of all managers. He is actually a
horrible self-important arrogant shit, and while I concede that none
of those qualities necessarily prevent him from being a good manager
(and yes Ok they are probably positive attributes in that context) I
really don't think his record is that great given the incredible
squads he has always been given to work with.

All the live streams of course have dried up. Any idea where there's a

Of course I could resubscribe to LUTV. I finally gave up on that during the
Bates era. Any users care to recommend or not? I'd only really be interested
in the highlights. And only then if it looks like we've signed some
footballers and are going to play some football.

Look forward to all the reports and opinions

It would appear that the Liam Cooper from Chesterfield deal is back on and
that Bellusci is in Leeds as we speak - given that both these deals have
collapsed in the past, there must be a decent chance that this time they
will happen, especially Bellusci who turned down our offer, if he is here
now either he has lowered his demands or we have increased our offer or some
sort of compromise re wages etc but one that is already agreed.

Know v little about either but Bellusci does have some pedigree, and there
is an element of they 'can't be any worse' than what we have and have had
recently !

Looking forward to tonight - hope he give Benedicic . Dawson and Taylor a
run out - be good to see Berardi get 90mins too, and for Doukara and Ajose
to start as well. It is both a no win and no lose game. Lose and it is a
case of so what but on the other hand if we win it is a case of 'only
Accrington' - so to me the pressure is off as much as it can be in a
competitive game

Will probably be full of kids with the children for a £1 promotion that the
League Cup organisers have insisted upon. Whilst it may be annoying to be
sat with loads of kids it has got to be good for the future of LUFC and the
game in general - teams not in the Prem need to get youngsters supporting
them as opposed to a Prem team and in the habit of going to games not
watching on Sky

All been quiet on Poleon front (have read one 'guess' that he may be off to
Chesterfield as part of Cooper deal) - we have allegedly turned down £5m for
Sam but will accept £8m. Smith is in talks over a new contract -hope we
offer him what he wants (within reason) and do no offer him some (in
footballing terms) a derisory amount that means he leaves now for a small
fee or goes at the end of the season for nothing

Anyway the pubs in Leeds are calling for a pre match pint

Bye

Is that true? It's been a year or so since I've been in. But In an area devoid

My apologies if I was unclear, I didn't mean to insult you in a 'overseas
listers know nowt' kind of way.
As we all know there is more to supporting a football team than just results
and the best players otherwise we'd all be supporting premiership winning
clubs.
There's an ethos to supporting a team and how BMc presents himself in
interviews that may not be broadcast worldwide indicates to me that he gets
what Leeds United is all about.
How many of us claim all we want is for the players to give 100%? Well we've
got a manager who despite all the sh*t thrown at him over the last few
months hasn't walked away even though he would have been well within his
rights to. A manager who is proud to be Leeds yet has been undermined at
almost every opportunity by a weak and inconsistent board deserves our
support.
Yes the squad is sh*t but it isn't his squad. We have no idea how many
Varney's there are in Colin's men and we probably never will, BMc isn't the
sort of manager who tells tales. We know Kenny and Colin go back a long way,
so it's not surprising, that, since Colin went, Kenny's form has dipped, how
many others are in the same frame of mind? What do you suggest he does with
them in a squad so threadbare? We have a squad full of Colin's mates. We had
three left backs and no central defenders, half a dozen central midfielders
and no wingers, why do you think that was? BMc's had to gamble with
freebies, loanees and lower league prospects. He re-established links with
the academy that Colin had destroyed. Yes we all wonder at the inclusion of
Pugh in any squad but BMc didn't sign him, who else should he play? Anyone
but Pugh isn't the answer if we haven't got anyone else.
Again that's not BMc's fault, he came to a club that had just borrowed the
wages from the previous owner and struggled to pay it back. Despite all this
he was nominated for manager of the month in November. How short and how
fickle memories you all have.
Marching on together? Or only when it suits?
Cheers
Paul

Re: [LU] Wunderbar

No idea about Stewart but Kebe is a very good signing at this level. Was a
very underated part of Reading's promotion. Right wing and full of assists.

Put it on mute, the music is awful.

Subject: [LU] Wunderbar

I am really excited about the 'new look' LUFC - of course we may have
brought in 2 duds - but I am really looking forward to seeing Stewart and
Kebe play for us.
In some ways this is as good as it gets - all the optimism and excitement
and none of the back down to reality that will happen once we have seen them
on the pitch in a Leeds shirt Does anyone know which wing they each play on
, or which foot they predominantly use ?

The thought of 2 wingers flying down the flanks and taking players on before
producing great crosses for our onrushing centre forwards to bury in the net
is the stuff of dreams, and is what football is all about. Add to that  the
chance for Murphy and Mowatt to show some great passing to players actually
moving into space and making runs, and things are really looking up.

The link up with SF49 or whatever means nothing to me, if it works and
brings in money for us great - if nothing happens then as long as it does
not cost us, who cares.

The promise of good times to come indeed

Wish I was going tomorrow but I instead I will be glued to the box hoping to
see some fireworks from us - well done Brian, you have given us hope
(whatever happens)

Dave

Yep Brown is not the answer but to be fair he has contributed more than
Murphy.

Re: [LU] Dreadful

2013-12-29 Thread Ben Thorpe
More than Murphy! Brown spent the first half covering for him, as did
Austin. I'd have had Tonge on at half time after that showing, which says it
all really.

The only man for me who came out with a bit of credit was Peltier. He had
Abdoun in his pocket for most of the match - and having seen what he did to
QPR last week, that's no mean feet.

I like BMD but he was to blame for this one. The change of formation when
Byram came on was far too late.

Murphy was very poor but what did Brown do again apart from kick people?

Is this a euphemism for a bit of 'back door' action and does a Murphy Wank
involve stout?

England striking crisis.

Rooney injured (and crap), Sturridge injured, Welbeck now
suspended.

Time for Roy to call up Luke Varney!

[LU] Non LU - Brittany

2013-03-26 Thread Ben Thorpe
I seem to remember this question being asked not too long ago, but... I'm
spending a week in Brittany around mid-April, does anyone have any
recommendations for places to go, things to see, places to eat, where the
best seafood is, quaint towns, best beaches, markets etc..? I'll probably be
staying somewhere near Dinan, but would be looking to explore (and
eat\drink) as much of the region as possible.

Cheers,

Ben

This dragging on never ending saga is getting on my wick.
Who the fuck do these buggers think they are and we are?
FFS without us they have nothing. But they keep hundred of thousands of world
wide supporters twisting in the wind. Weeks have gone by nothing.
It's an honor to buy Leeds United. Behave as if it was. Buy some bloody players
while you are at it too.
This is the same arrogant dismissive behavior we received from that evil
cockney mother fucking cunt the MS.
