[LU] LU: Leics 0-0

2013-08-11 Thread Jezz Thorpe
As Mick McCarthy said BMD set Leeds up to neutralise Leicester and they did.
Then the last 10 proved the most entertaining I really enjoyed it when Dom Dom
and Big Smith came on, (as they're now called in our house). 10 mins earlier
and we may have won but a hard fought clean sheet and point away from home. We
were never threatened just need a little more creativity and that would seems
to point to where McCormack plays in this team.
Work in Progress and BMD's tenure is looking solid.

David Haigh with McD at press conference

Asst Nigel Gibbs come with McD.

Got 3 yr deal - lots of discussions re future of club and McD happy with

 McD
only club he would have taken over at this stage of season, massive club
 .history.
Was approached 10 days ago - talk re coming in summer but stuff escalated and
Harvey said need him know, thought long and hard and it seems right to come
 now. Seen training and impressed.
Will answer in summer whether he has money to spend , come on good will,
spoken to Harvey and owners, we all want to take club forward, cannot do it
on own, all need go in same direction.
 Want to get promoted
Assurance is that GFH want to take club forward (not sell it on)

McD - have looked at oppo for tomorrow and team we are picking , most imp is
getting 3 points, never an easy game whoever you play, want us to play
without fear. When came with Reading thought was great atmosphere, want
players who will love playing at ER
No comment re Colin saying 2 or 3 short of great team. No time to judge
Spoke to Redders re team selection tomorrow - we know the team. Redders done
 good job

Haigh - McD first choice, good track record and shares our vision of club and
 future

McD - not here to prove a point, record shows I know what I am doing, am very
hungry, we all have a point to prove inc players.
I want to think re Sheff Wed not whether will play Reading next year
No time scale re promotion - take each game and gather points as and when we
 can,.keep going, keep on believing.
No assurances re Byram Lees etc, know in real world players will go, lost
Long and Singerson but we still won league It is never about one player, I
know that. Best for young players to learn trade at ER in front of big crowds

Eddie - impressed - talked sense, was calm, and knows is a team game and
 players leave

Re: [LU] Tv

2012-04-19 Thread Jezz Thorpe

My TV selections are 1) Dexter, just dl'd series 6 which a mate tells me is
a corker. 2) Breaking Bad, Just got to the end of series 2 with two to go.
3) Shameless but not watched any of the last series yet. Watched the first
series of 24 then it went downhill rapidly. Oh yes forgot an early fave was
Twin Peaks, brilliant and I still don't know what was going on.

I have Boardwalk Empire that my eldest daughter tells me is a must watch but
disappointed with many others eg, Walking Dead, Falling Skies, Touch etc all
of them promising lots but all basically morality tales or soap operas
concentrating on the micro rather than the macro content and missing their
opportunity to entertain. Also everything Robert Carlyle has appeared in on
US TV so far has been crud, a very sad demise for Begbie indeed.

Guilty pleasure is Spartacus all wooden scripts but more tits, arse and gore
than you could wish for on TV. Sam Raimi, producer (Evil Dead) knows
precisely what his audience wants. It even survived the death of its lead
actor aged 39.

Music. First albums in order 1) The Move - 1st LP, 2) The Crazy World of
Arthur Brown - 1st LP, 3) Blue Cheer - Outsideinside. Last album bought
Liquorball - Live Break Run (2011), they are the kings of guitar noise.
Last CD's all the CDR's released by the Glasgow guitar noise skree outfit
Smoke Jaguar.
Most embarrassing probably 100's but of the early 45's Joe Brown - Little
White Bull without a shadow of a doubt.

First gig I ever went to The Beatles on their Hard Days Night period, my Mum
took me, Vox AC 30's and a 200 watt PA stood no chance when up against 1500
screaming pre-pubescent girls. Great gigs, Free with Kossof in all their
glory, The Who when Moon would trash his kit and Townsend his guitar, Faces
with Stewart, Wood and Lane, Edgar Broughton Band performing a 30 minute
Out Demons Out. The Clash, The Damned, Throbbing Gristle, Pere Ubu, Gang
of Four, The Fall, Joy Division, the early Human League performing behind
Perspex screens whilst the audience bottled them. More recently Circle
(finland), Dead C (nz) and Acid Mothers Temple (japan) so loud my ears were
hissing for 48 hrs afterwards.

First gig I promoted The Rats at a Church Hall in Scarborough, 35 kids and a
dog turned up we all ended up on stage with the band. The Rats later turned
into Bowies band the Spiders from Mars. I'm proud to claim to have played
air guitar on stage alongside Mick Ronson.

First gig I played supporting Desperate Bicycles at Camden Musicians
Collective, second supporting New Order at the Kentish Town Forum.

First Football match Scarborough vs Frickley Colliery 1963, Leeds United was
a few years later I can remember the atmosphere and the terraces and a 1 - 1
draw but I can't remember who it was against.

This is now out of hand I'm stopping.

Re: [LU] list down?

2012-03-28 Thread Jezz Thorpe
I'm trying to recall when I joined the list. Definitely during the George
Graham period which started in 1996.

One of my fondest memories is sitting in the Bobby Moore stand at Upton Park
watching an O'Leary side thump one of Rednapps 5 - 1 with 3 of theirs being
sent off.
Hasselbaink scored inside 15 seconds, me holding onto my seat to prevent me
giving my presence away. Some others couldn't and got escorted out.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sport/football/fa_carling_premiership/333187.stm

We spent the last minute playing keep ball to prevent them getting a 4th
player sent off that would have meant match abandoned.

In the end there were about 20 Leeds fans occupying the stand and all the
Happy Hammers had walked.

Jezz

I was thinking of lifers who are still on here..Someone help me out
here There was an old fan of Scarborough FC on this list who remembers
their 73, 75, 76 77 appearances at Wembleywas it Guy?

Leeds and Scarborough the only two teams I've ever followed.

Re: [LU] Non LU: Fertility Question

2012-02-22 Thread Jezz Thorpe
Seeing as everyone is expanding in their replies thought that I'd revisit my
earlier declaration below.
I've just turned 58 and have 4 kids ages 29, 23, 10 and 5 ( The Elland's see
below ) but no grandchildren as yet.
The eldest, Ben, was born within the sound of Bow Bells but is a diehard
LUFC man. For his first match I took him to see an early O'Leary team tonk a
West Ham side 4 -0 when Razor Ruddock got sent off December 98. He's been
rock solid since 91-92 and Wilko's champions and on this list for the last
decade.
Eldest daughter Meredith (no LUFC references) feigned interest for a few
years, then the two Elland's came along. Harry (my Dad), Oliver (Dacourt,
couldn't use the French spelling), Elland (Road) claims to be a Spurs fan.
Told him at age 16 he's going to be kicked out to live under the hedge out
front but still time to sort him out. I'll take him to Elland Road when it's
worthwhile and the house is full and singing again, that should cure him.
Youngest Madeline Daisy Elland only tonight asked if she could play with my
LUFC beanie bear that sits on a shelf proudly surveying the lounge.
Permission was granted after a brief ceremony when she openly declared her
allegiance to the badge and all things LUFC for the rest of her days. Cruel
I know but needs must and that's only a 50% success rate.

Redfearn returned to Bootham Crescent as manager of a strong Leeds
