[LU] Good to be back (Everton)
Morning All Agree with everything you said Dave, as for getting a beer, I don't think it helps that the Centenary Pavillion was all corporate on Saturday, they did erect a small (very small) marquee next door, but that wasn't adequate either, installed an e-bar, serve yourselves. We went to Billy's bar, which was ok, but at £4.95 a pink, I think it'll be the Peacock or town next time. Still a brilliant day, with a great game thrown in Paul On 22 August 2021 at 12:00, leedslist-requ...@gn.apc.org wrote: -- Message: 1 Date: Sun, 22 Aug 2021 09:48:12 + (UTC) From: "nat...@sky.com" To: leeds list Subject: [LU] Good to be back (Everton) Message-ID: <1326742866.980551.1629625692...@mail.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Well we are back and back with a bang - the atmosphere was everything we remembered and more , the limbs after the 2 goals were as good as any game since we went all seaterIt was a fitting game to re- start in front of fans , lots of end to end stuff, some crunching tackles, decent chances and saves, 2 great goals from us as we came from behind and a raucous atmosphere throughout. On MOTD compare the polite applause at Man City as the 5th went in v our ‘scenes’ when Raph banged in the equaliser ( and I know they are not strictly comparable)Just a shame that the last minute scramble / foul on Bamford did not earn us a winner So 90 mins was great but I am not sure what to expect with everything else - we had full houses every week before lock down but no game seenec as packed as this one. The train was full of Everton ( first time seen away fans in numbers) and then it was 5 or 6 deep in the West Ridings - so bad we doubled up first round ( as did others) We left early to meet someone on fanszone at 1.45 but the bus queue was massive and Uber had no drivers ! Eventually flagged a cab who dropped us at the roundabout at the top of the hill, so bad was the traffic . Fanzone queues were so long we went into the Revie members bar to ensure we got served before kickoff ( lager and cider both went off )Like I say no idea why things were so packed for same number of fans as last season so god only knows what havoc 55,000 capacity will bringWas great to see everyone I recognise near me made it through covid alive and well and the minutes silence that became applause / singing to commemorate those we have lost made hairs on my neck stand up. For me it was poignant to walk past the Burley Banksy box in memory of Big Jack the man I blame for my life :-)) The game was played at a frantic pace , they were mainly content to soak up pressure and hit us on the break ( they probably had more and better clear chances) we had control it were not too threatening. The penalty decision was odd - we saw nothing and thought they were looking at VAR to fill time while Klich received treatment- knew it was bad when ref took a look . Calvin Lewis was a right dick after scoring- doing the shush gesture before some wanky dancing - twat . Their no7 dived and moaned his way through the game a la Grealish so a team not on our radar became a team we hated ( for the day at least)Our equaliser was magnificent- Bamford stole the ball and fed Klich who finished with real style - cue bedlamSecond half they did more and went ahead and we nearly fell apart saved ( literally by Mes) then came the equaliser, a cross from Kalvin and in a scramble Coops fed Raph who thundered it home - cracking finish We tried to win it but a draw was fair ( and beat last seasons result) So a point on the board and the season is up and running and I LOVE IT Dave -- Subject: Digest Footer ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Norman MOT -- End of Leedslist Digest, Vol 134, Issue 10 ** ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest in Peace Guy, and wear your hat!
Re: [LU] On the other hand.
Couldn’t agree more with you Nick, everyone in the ground is a manager, that along with everyone in the pub and them in their own front room, never gonna change that. We are all fans that care about the club and deep down want to put it right, reality is that we have one of the best managers in the world and bottom line is he knows better than us. Everyone has got valid points, I’m aware of that, but this season has been mostly a joy to be a Leeds fan, on and off the field, I just hope that MB and Radz will stay on and see the job through. Secondly the fact that despite it being shooting practice at the end and almost the oldkids game of attack v defence we only managed 2 goals However these two gripes are totally overshadowed by a tremendous performance, all made possible by the return of the magician , Pablo Hernandez, who was sublime and went through their back line like the proverbial knife through butter. He was a joy to watch and when he plays like this you wonder what he is doing in this Division. How we have missed him especially at home when faced with a team who pack the defence and come for a draw. The other returnee, Kemar Roofe, also proved , yet again, that he is a centre forward not a winger, and when he is allowed to play up top he gets results, this time a lovely timed header when he got between the 2 defenders and met a brilliant cross by Pablo - the finish very similar to the goal v Derby (?) He buzzed around and caused them problems all evening. Everyone played their part last night, with all 3 subs also doing well. Dallas showed what he can still offer something going forward and had one attempt just wide and one lovely run when he actually took on and beat two defenders. Pearce showed that he does still have a future- like the rest of us he must have wondered why he did not get the nod ahead of Dallas when Douglas got injured. Forshaw fitted into the system as if he was born into it and also went close with a rasping drive, he replaced the slightly subdued Saiz and kept the ball moving with little Batty-esque type passing and interceptions. We could have had a hatful with Alisoki coming closest to adding to the total with a great run and shot that came back from the inside of the post - he was another player who was back to his best last night , with a cross in the first half nearly causing a goal as the keeper could only parry it back into the danger zone. The second goal and the one that eased all our tension off the pitch and led to total capitulation from Ipswich on it, was brilliant and well worked - a short corner came back to Pablo and his cross was superbly dummied by Phillips(?) and fell to Cooper who side footed it with his right from the edge of the box - yes League -One Liam as some call him finsihed with real skill and aplomb. That ended the game as a contest (if it ever was, since all they managed was one

A big thanks to you Dave Natton on some great match and not forgetting others who contribute to match reports throughout the season, some I'm pleased to say cheered me up no end after what seems a lifetime of negativity us Leeds fans have had to put up with on and off the field, as I don't get up to the games much anymore living in gods holiday home of Gloucestershire I do look forward to a fans point of view. [LU] We are the Whites!
Funny you should mention the white kit of Leeds. I was born and bred in Wimbledon (don't flame me for being a southern softy!), for my 5th birthday, i got my first kit a white kit, a pure white kit, all my mum could probably afford as my dad died suddenly 2 years previous. I looked in the Littlewoods Pools booklet that showed all teams home and away strips, saw Leeds was white and that was it, I was Leeds, and now 46 years on (23rd January to be precise) I still am. I had many years of mates at school trying to convert me to other clubs, but apart from watching Wimbledon 10 minutes walk away, i never wavered. Been a season ticket holder at ER (albeit shared), done Europe and many away games over the years, but alas after marriage and kids it all came to an end and I have only been a few times since the bearded one has been doing his mischief. Re: [LU] 1950???
Been here a long time in lurk mode, can't quite remember when, but mid 90's i would think. (note to Betty: do you have any records on when listers first signed up?) Was at the LC final in '96, travelled from Tewkesbury with the South West branch, coach driver kept getting lost in London on the way home, didn't get home till gone 1am! Never hated being on a bus more than that occasion, and that includes coming back from Stuttgart in September '92 and travelling from London to Dundee on a village bus after the main bus broke down at Victoria Coach Station, they gave us blankets but god it was so fecking cold. Very rarely post but love to read the match reports. Haven't been regular to ER for a long time now, marriage and kids had something to do with that! Don't like putting my money in MS's pockets either. Love the list, shame about the bickering of late, but hey, we all have opinions. Like listening to the Square Ball podcast as well, with the two I get a good idea of what people are talking about rather than what's printed in the press.
