[LU] Revie, Clough etc
Interesting points of view, but we had the last great English manager. (Wilko, for those in denial). The fans booed him and he got sacked because we slipped to 9th after Batty etc were sold behind his back. No surprise then that Clough, before him, never got a chance at ER. The fans and owners preferred his predecessor who, it is impossible not to believe now, bribed the opposition and directly caused us to have the worst reputation a team has ever had. What's the point of a great team (which it was) if accompanied by the shenanigans and damage that went with it? Clough merely told a truth that was too hard for fans and players under Revie's spell to believe. Some of them still won't believe it. There is absolutely no doubt that Clough was the greatest manager of the 70s-80s. Possibly the best ever. But We got rid of himand ended up relegated. Wilko was the greatest English manager of the 90s. a miracle worker, and we got rid of him too And ended up relegated. Both managers produced teams on honest endeavour, honesty and plain speaking - which incredibly is something Yorkshire folk claim to admire. But no, we knew best. They had to go. It appears to me that the dark times have gone. The rare occasions I go to matches sees a much more humble Leeds support. Or is that, when one sees Warnock roundly booed, wishful thinking? ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org MARCHING ON TOGETHER
[LU] Revie Statue
I see that we unveiled a rather fetching statue of The Don outside the ground today. About time too. However, I was reading about it on the Interweb (www.donreviestatue.com), and was rather sickened to see that the club couldn't resist the chance to milk even this tribute by allowing 10 sponsored plaques to be added to the base. Yours for 1,500 quid sir. So for the price of one week's wages for one of our sh*tty players, we'll tarnish the memory of the best person in our club's history. Unbe-feckin-leavable! Re: [LU] Revie Statue
Reading more, I can see that this was entirely funded by donations from supporters, which explains the plaques. But now I'm even more disgusted that the club didn't pay for it! Re: [LU] Revie Statue
I don't think that the club had anything to do with the various sponsorship opportunities and memorabilia sales. I think all funds raised by those means went into the statue fund and any surplus went to Motor Neuron disease research. Don't know if the club charged for use of the pavilion and other facilities though but I was told that at least some of that money also went into the charity (maybe all of it). The sponsored plaques are on the small walls to the sides of the viewing area and not on the statue base itself. There is a main plaque on the front base which just explains that the statue was paid for by the fans. - Original Message - From: Nigel Sykes To: 'Leeds List' Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2012 3:56 PM Subject: [LU] Revie Statue I see that we unveiled a rather fetching statue of The Don outside the ground today. Re: [LU] Revie Statue
That's what we are. A plaything for a cockney Chelsea reject. A foul mouthed cheating bigot. And above all a feeder team for Norwich. If that Bastard passes any kind of suitability test then what's the point? Who's kidding who? Again, just watching Norwich based ion our engine room in the PL because MS pocketed the proceeds or ducked the bill sickened me completely. There is no way that Snoddy stays. Bates out. Thanks for the link mate, I couldn't get it as i'm not in UK at this time, got it now, brilliant, interesting to note they all say Sir Alex as best manager at the moment or most like the Don. Prejudices aside I have to agree, a fair and fun interview. Massive game this weekend, we need to improve a lot vs Forest. MOT.
