Dave, on your 'best ever' comment memories might be poor and do funny things
but for me I shall

it would be 9 maybe even a 10,
since I cannot think of any aspect that was not perfect
For the full 90 minutes we gave Burton a lesson and put on a masterclass for
the watching fans.
This was the hammering we were always on the cusp of handing out last season
but never did - and yet once
dallas came on 8 of the 10 outfield players were here last season but they have
moved to a different level.
Cooper, Phillips, Roofe, O'Kane ,Hernandez all Ok to average last time are now
world beaters (at this level)
Like most fans I have a pretty poor memory when it comes to 'the best ever '
etc but I cannot remember the
last time we totally and utterly destroyed a team from the sam Division - they
really could not live with us and
we looked like a team from a Divisoion 3 or 4 levels above - we really were
that good. Someone on the bus
said we had 30 shots to their 1 and that sounds about right. As my lad kept
saying - our centre half did a
Cruyff turn in his own box and it will not even make the highlights !
We have now played 6 games in the league with our new keeper and we still do
not have a clue if he is any
good, so solid is the defence in front of him - 5 clean sheets on the bounce
now.

Normally when you have a team with that sort of defence record you are looking
at a boring George Graham
team - this lot are anything but that. We attack with verve and skill and from
all angles - Redknapp must be
thinking of retiring before Tuesday when he watches this
In the pub beforehand there was a general feeling of optimism tinged with a bit
of concern that we would be
brought crashing down to earth today and fail to win a game, that , on paper we
should win reasonably easily.
We then spent the next 90 minutes, laughing smiling and asking each other if
this was real
If you were not there and did not watch it live it is hard to get across how
great we were from 1 to 11 (or
whatever numbers we have) and from minute 1 to 90. They could not live with us
and were chasing shadows
I had said beforehand that Lasogga needed to get on the score sheet quickly
since I thought (wrongly) that
his style would not go down well and would not impress the fans. Well he
certainly got off to a good start and
he looked the real deal both in front of goal and in his general play - it
really will be a case of Chris who very
soon
I was disappointed to see no Alioski and felt a bit sorry for Roofe not getting
the number 9 role - but TC got
both correct and Roofe instead of sulking or going into his shell, gave as good
a performance as he ever has
As for the goals - not sure I can remember them all but after totally battering
them for 20 minutes we got the
break through we both needed and deserved - a lovely through ball fell to
Lasogga and he took a touch and
fired home (think of the two misses by Wood v Preston and Fulham)

>From then on it was a question of how many - a shot was blocked and the ball
>fell to Phillips on the edge of
the box and bang - 2-0Just before half time we got the third that put us out of
sight and gave the team the
lead they deserved - we got a penalty, not sure why and as we discussed who
would be taking it , up stepped
Hernandez and he put it in with aplomb ( to the keepers left)
Second half was more of the same - Roofe got in on the action with a lovely
curler into the net and then he
turned provider as he skinned the full back, stood still ,looked up and chipped
it onto the head of Lasogga
who headed home - perfection
As well as the five goals, Lasogga hit the woodwork and various players shot
wide and had shots saved
This was football as it should be played - a real sight of the beautiful game
All the players deserve a 9 with Siaz, O'Kane and Lasogga getting a ten - yes
it was that good

Looking forward to Tuesday already
dave

2017-09-10 Thread Ian Murray
It's amazing what a performance like this can do to one's mood. Makes me want
to get on a plane and turn up on Tuesday, with my dad and have a few pints of
Leeds Pale.

I'll have to make do with the live stream and some Australian red.

We're going up as fucking champions!

We were too late to go before the match but as we're in NE Corner it was
open to us at half time. No real queues, helpful staff (the ones that
served me!) & some decent "anthem" tunes being played made for a decent
experience.
Also, a 2 pint (plastic) glass of Cider/Lager was £5. Compared to a single
pint for £3.90, no brainer! Me & a mate bought one + a (free) pint glass
and shared, £2.50 against £3.90.

So with a few minor improvements (directing people around it to ticket
office & NE entrances), I would say it was okay and worth a visit.

Completely agree with yours & everyone's reports, a sublime performance at
this level. At 4 nil tho, we were still asking if we were "safe" - the joys
of being a Leeds fan!

The one comment we made between goals 2 and three yesterday was that this was
like the early days of O’Leary’s team, when pretty much any player would pop up
and have a bang on goal, everyone was so mobile, the play was fluent and all
were comfortable on the ball...

Bloody hell!

The results have been amazing so far, and (unlike often last season) the
performances have been as good if not better, as far as I can glean from
10,000 miles away.

And if even the professional miserabilist is throwing around 10s like
confetti, something must really be happening at Elland Road!

It was wonderful to behold - first match I've watched on our new fangled
international streaming service.

Almost unfair to pick out any individual player, but special mention to
O'Kane - he absolutely ran the match whilst he was on.

Great that we've got almost all this bunch tied up to long term deals too -
the future is shining bright white.

As good as the team performance was, it also says something that Alioski
never got on the pitch and Pennington, Berardi, CBJ and Vieira weren't even
in the 18 - we have both the team and the squad to go the distance this
year.

WTF is going on? This kind of positivism is unheard of in modern times. Have
they put something in the water in Leeds?

Is this finally going to be our year? Have we finally found our new Wilko?

[LU] Burton

2017-09-09 Thread nat...@sky.com
Unbelievable - amazing , outstanding  , brilliant - you chose your adjective -
it was just greatI have got home to see my wife watching strictly and i just
think if we were being judged today it would be 9 maybe even a 10, since I
cannot think of any aspect that was not perfect
For the full 90 minutes we gave Burton a lesson and put on a masterclass for
the watching fans.
This was the hammering we were always on the cusp of handing out last season
but never did - and yet once dallas came on 8 of the 10 outfield players were
here last season but they have moved to a different level. Cooper, Phillips,
Roofe, O'Kane ,Hernandez all Ok to average last time are now world beaters (at
this level)
Like most fans I have a pretty poor memory when it comes to 'the best ever '
etc but I cannot remember the last time we totally and utterly destroyed a team
from the sam Division - they really could not live with us and we looked like a
team from a Divisoion 3 or 4 levels above - we really were that good. Someone
on the bus said we had 30 shots to their 1 and that sounds about right. As my
lad kept saying - our centre half did a Cruyff turn in his own box and it will
not even make the highlights !
We have now played 6 games in the league with our new keeper and we still do
not have a clue if he is any good, so solid is the defence in front of him - 5
clean sheets on the bounce now.

Normally when you have a team with that sort of defence record you are looking
at a boring George Graham team - this lot are anything but that. We attack with
verve and skill and from all angles - Redknapp must be thinking of retiring
before Tuesday when he watches this
In the pub beforehand there was a general feeling of optimism tinged with a bit
of concern that we would be brought crashing down to earth today and fail to
win a game, that , on paper we should win reasonably easily. We then spent the
next 90 minutes, laughing smiling and asking each other if this was real
If you were not there and did not watch it live it is hard to get across how
great we were from 1 to 11 (or whatever numbers we have) and from minute 1 to
90. They could not live with us and were chasing shadows
I had said beforehand that Lasogga needed to get on the score sheet quickly
since I thought (wrongly) that his style would not go down well and would not
impress the fans. Well he certainly got off to a good start and he looked the
real deal both in front of goal and in his general play - it really will be a
case of Chris who very soon
I was disappointed to see no Alioski and felt a bit sorry for Roofe not getting
the number 9 role - but TC got both correct and Roofe instead of sulking or
going into his shell, gave as good a performance as he ever has
As for the goals - not sure I can remember them all but after totally battering
them for 20 minutes we got the break through we both needed and deserved - a
lovely through ball fell to Lasogga and he took a touch and fired home (think
of the two misses by Wood v Preston and Fulham)

From then on it was a question of how many - a shot was blocked and the ball
fell to Phillips on the edge of the box and bang - 2-0Just before half time we
got the third that put us out of sight and gave the team the lead they deserved
- we got a penalty, not sure why and as we discussed who would be taking it ,
up stepped Hernandez and he put it in with aplomb ( to the keepers left)
Second half was more of the same - Roofe got in on the action with a lovely
curler into the net and then he turned provider as he skinned the full back,
stood still ,looked up and chipped it onto the head of Lasogga who headed home
- perfection
As well as the five goals, Lasogga hit the woodwork and various players shot
wide and had shots saved
This was football as it should be played - a real sight of the beautiful game
All the players deserve a 9 with Siaz, O'Kane and Lasogga getting a ten - yes
it was that good

Looking forward to Tuesday already

FLAME WARS 'R US

[LU] Burton

2016-10-29 Thread nat...@sky.com
Not the greatest of performances and no doubt Clough and their fans will be
claiming they deserved something from this game, and to be fair they had an
arguement as they were the better team for big sections of the gameHaving said
that we defended with skill and resolution and then when we stepped it up a
gear in the last 20minutes they could not live with us.First half was  bit of a
non event with both defences on top and cancelling each other out. They came
close to scoring twice - first a corner was not cleared and their lad had a
shot that  Green could have saved but he chose to let it go so O'Kane headed it
off the line - a bit strange that a player on the line would shout to the
keeper to leave it, but that is what seemed to happen. Later on Bartley (once
again a commanding figure at the centre of defence) went in strongly in the air
and his header thankfully just went wide - he deserved that bit of luck.
We failed to trouble them much and our best was when Hernandez broke clear and
beat a couple of players but failed to get a shot off. Sacko also had a header
that went wideThe general feeling at half time was that one goal would settle
this game and that we needed to up the tempo to ensure it was us that got it.
Second half , for 30minutes was similar to the first, with defences ruling the
day. Roofe nearly got his deserved first goal but he dragged his shot just past
the post. That apart it was mainly huff and puff (give credit to Ayling who had
his best game for us and really tried to make things happen)
Then just as we all thought this would be 0 0 Monk rang the changes with Viera
and Doukara coming on. I have said for ages that Doukara has something about
him and that there was a good player in there , somewhere, and we just had to
get him sorted to proof it. Anyway he came on and started where he had left off
on Tuesday and was too good for them.
A lovely knock back by Wood to Hernandez who proved his worth to the team by
threading a lovely ball through to the onrushing Doukara. He controlled the
ball and whilst he dithered a bit ready to pick his spot he was taken down
-100% penalty and last year would have been a red card (rather than the yellow
that was given). Up stepped Wood and he hammered home the penalty, despite some
dickhead in the Kop making it harder for him by throwing a bottle on the pitch
leading to a bit of a delay.1 up in a game we all thought would be first goal
wins - that should have been that, but the ref who gave every 50/50 decision to
them the whole game, gave them a free kick on the edge of the box - a few
blocks as our lads put their bodies on the line, led to the ball breaking with
Wood, he had learned from Hernandez's pass to Doukara and he played the same
ball through to the onrushing Doukara - carbon copy of the first goal. Again
Douks bore down on goal and was again fouled in the box , the ref allowed him
to go on and as he fell over he managed to push the ball past the keeper and
into the net 2 0 and only seconds leftSo a victory by more than one goal for
the first time at home in a while and we all went hom happy
Not the greatest of games or performances but 3 points in the bag, in the sort
of game we would have drawn or even lost last yearJanson and Bartley again very
solid at the back, Ayling having his best game, Wood a handful and a good
penaly taker, Phillips asking as many questions as answers, O'kane doing his
job without fuss. Sacko infuriating (the new Huckerby - neither him, his
team-mates or the opposition having a clue what he is doing)Doukara only on the
pitch for 10 minutes or so and making one (that he would have scored) and
scoring another - a real find if (and it is a big IF) we can get him to do this
regularly
So all in all a good end to a good week and a real feel good factor around the
place as the players seem to have a good team spirit and seem to want to be here
