Re: [LU] Soton thoughts from the armchair

2022-08-15 Thread Ian Murray
I was going to say that I liked Roca from what I saw of him live in Brisbane
and Perth. Looked tidy. I wouldnt call him a Gregan.

Roca played a couple of good balls that Bamford just failed to control
against Wolves
At the moment he seems to run out of energy in the 2nd half - so needs
to be swapped for Forshaw on 60 mins

Agree. Adam is a tidy footballer and may get to grips with the PL.
Roca and Kristensen are more of a worry.

I have to concede how average Kristensen has looked at times - Drameh must
think he’ll be in with a chance, because he’s quicker and a better tackler
(albeit rash at times). Kristensen looks the part, and I’m hoping they just
need time to gel.

I was hacked off we only drew yesterday, but it’s another point on the board.
I’m still on the fence re Marsch’s tactics. He talks a good game, and he has
credit in the bank after last season, but he needs to get the fitness levels up
- I know it was hot yesterday but giving maximum effort is a must. When Klich
has come on in both games he’s improved the quality on the pitch, which says
something?

As for Bamford, he seems so fragile - we definitely need a decent forward,
because there is no way Patrick will play more than a third/half the games!

4 points in the bag is ok though - hoping we can compete with Chelsea -
anything from that game will be a plus.

Re: [LU] Soton thoughts from the armchair

2022-08-14 Thread Greg Adams
No arguments with this.  Adams for me looks poor.  Plenty of times he
had a second or two to control and look for a pass, but just kicked it
away.  He does not seem able to make a decent pass.  Runs around a lot
and gets a lot of tackles in without actually winning the ball.

In both games Kristensen has looked suspect to quick / tricky wingers.
He also loses his man too easily. Not much of a threat going forward
either for all his stats and reputation.

Roca is very slow.  Looks to make a pass, but has not yet been able to
play a decent ball that could make a difference.  He and Adams also have
not been able to shield the defence at all.

Aaronson is the pick of the new guys.  He should get better, but I'm not
overly confident that the other three will.  All of them seem to be way
off playing at the speed of the PL.

I'm still on the fence re Marsch.  His tactics seem to be kick the ball
long and run around a lot, hoping the ball breaks to us in the
opposition half.  At times we look like Burnley under Dyche. Also it
would have been simple to set up more defensively after going two up.
He said he tried to do that, but pulling Harrison back has never
worked.  He just does not defend well enough, so no surprise that their
second came from his side.

At the moment we are getting goals solely due to the skill of the
players, but as a team we look poor.

I'm still optimistic we'll stay up without to many problems, but Marsch
has to get the team playing much better.

On the plus side Everton and Villa looked shit in the half that I
watched, and I there will be other teams worse than us. Southampton were
useless until we gave them hope, and even then it was more a case of us
losing our composure.

Can't argue with the four points, but Like Rich, I worry about how we'll
cope against better sides.

I thought it was a game of ups and downs for us with our strongest period being
before the drinks break in the 2nd half. After the drinks break we seemed to
stop playing with a few players looking like they were struggling (Roca and
Adams in particular) and Marsch needed his subs on earlier. He has admitted to
this afterwards which is fair. Very disappointing to lose a 2 goal league but
any away point is useful.
Overall, I think we might have played 2 of the teams who will be involved in a
relegation battle with us so 4 out of 6 points aint bad.
For me though, I think the tactics are suspect. I don't think our new recruits
are doing it at the moment and although it's very early days I have grave
concerns about Kristensen and Roca. Roca really struggled 2nd half and he lacks
pace and looks very ordinary to me. Rasmus just looks industrial with no real
guile to his play / defending.
Scores:
Meisler - 6. I thought he could have saved one of the goals
Kristensen - 3. Contributed nothing other than a few panic clearances
Struijk - 5. Doesn't look completely comfortable at left back but the 2nd goal
was his (Rod knicked it) and he got through a lot of work.
Koch - 6. Some good work
Llorente - 6. Likewise but desperate defending at times
Adams - 4. Looks very lightweight to me. For their first goal he just gave up.
Roca - 3. Didn't contribute much after the first 25 mins.
Aaronson - 7. Lively without threatening.
Rodrigo - 7. Poor first half but then came alive.
Bamford - 3. injured again
Harrison - 7. I thought he was our best player throughout.
Subs:
Klich - looked lively again off the bench.
Sinisterra - also lively

Unbeaten in 2 but I think we'll get tonked by any of the top 6 teams. Hope I'm
wrong.
