Re: 2xgears

2010-01-05 Thread Tim Krause
Hi Bill,

I don't make any gears that Legacy has to offer. If they stop selling those
gears, I will look into making them.

I tried to find an old post of mine that showed how to make a poorman's
multiplier using stock gears. Both Curt and I made one. It was really easy.
Curt used 5/16 keystock to hold a pair of gears together. A hole was
drilled down the center of the keystock to make a bearing. Those gears were
mounted to the arm that holds the directional gear. I really wish I could
find the original thread and photos. I lost the photo's of my version in a
HD crash. Maybe Curt has a copy or his original photos.

Flipping Gears

2010-01-05 Thread Tim Krause
Hi All,

Here's an odd thought. I swapped my gears on my 900 to be orientated just like
the revo. The standard duplex gear is now above the spindle rather than under
the spindle. Rather than pulling the gears up, gravity pulls the gears down
and the gears naturally seat together. Give it a try and see what you think.
So far, I don't see a problem.

Re: Flipping Gears

2010-01-05 Thread ITwoodwork
Hi Tim

The reason the REVO gears were mounted up-side down compared to the
standard Model 900, 1200 and 1800 was because on one occassion when
Andy Anderson was over in UK, he and I visited the well known wood
turner Stuart Mortimer.

Stuart had his 1200 set up with the duplex gears set in REVO mode. So
when Andy built the REVO he included the Stuart Mortimer gear
configuration because it does not clog up with sawdust like it does in
normal duplex use. When I sell the machines over here I always show
this configuration on Model 900 1200.

Just goes to prove that Andy Anderson takes note of what customers say
and do.

Also proof that an old dog can still learn new tricks from another old
dog!

Regards
Roger

Re: 2xgears

2010-01-05 Thread Tim Krause
Hi Curt,

Your version was much fancier than mine. Is that the 120 tooth gear
combined with the 60, 40 and 30? I don't need any more pictures, but other
might be interested. See my note about flipping the arm, it would solve the
slipping problem possibly.

Hello Guys. I just got home.
Tim I don't have the files any more. but I can take some pictures and some
of my notes, I can post all the combinations that are possible if you
want?
I have a X2,3, 4 setup. I need to re-make my gear seting, but basically
what Tim said is correct, Its a set of gears that sit on a common center.
The gear set is connected between the drive gear and duplex gear.(in place
of the directional gear set.) I have one picture on file, but it dose not
show a lot, the gears need to be put in a housing so that they don't slide
 off and dis-engage.
Here is one pix. Tomorrow I will take the time and go out and take more
 pictures if anyone is interested.
Until then. have a good night.
 C.A.G.
