Hi Tim,

My name is Jim Duncanson and I'm from Burleson, Texas. I'm a retiree (68 years
old); I purchased my 1200 in 2004. Along with the 1200 I purchased several of
the VHS tapes teaching various projects such as the candlestick. I have a small
(about 400 sq. ft.) shop with lots of toys. Initially, I had intended to learn
furniture making when I retired. Getting sick stopped the move to a bigger
building and forced me to adapt to having the shop in my garage. It's a little
crowded but the commute is great. I have all the usual suspects; mini lathe,
table saw, vertical band saw, panel sander, jointer, planer and of course the
legacy ornamental mill. While I am no longer able to do furniture due to
limitations, I am trying to learn and make lots of other things. So far I have
made band saw boxes, cutting boards and small wooden games for the family, and
with some help from my oldest son this year I was able to build a cradle for
his first grand daughter.

Shortly after I assembled the Legacy, I suffered a major illness with long
lasting issues that prevented me from playing with it. It currently is sitting
covered with dust in my shop and I'm getting ready to pull it out of the corner
and rehab it. More than anything, I would like to find a copy of the machine
and project instructions both written and electronic media. Mine were on VHS
and were mistakenly gotten rid of when the VHS player died and we replaced it
with a DVD. If there are any members that have that information in DVD format,
I would love to purchase it or a copy of it. I have been more than a little
saddened that Legacy doesn't support their products any longer.

Best regards, Jim

Re: Today's Legacy project

2018-11-21 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
Thanks Mike !  I'm going to write up a step by step picture galore for the LOM
group.Hopefully someone out there might have some ideas on how to make this
differently? I would like to learn as much as I can on this topic.  I don't
know how many more bone turnings that I will do, but I do guarantee I will be
trying this again soon.

diamond hole saw to cut out 7/8" disks, which I then faced off and squared up
the disks on my  Shop Smith Lathe. (using a collect chuck to hold the disks for
the clean up.) Once the 16 disks where trued up, I then drilled the centers and
glued the disks together using a clear Epoxy glue (5 min. set time.)  Once
glued up I put the bones on the Legacy and made a nice bone spindle, (all ready
for the detail work! )
I was using a pen mandrel to hold the spindle in/on the Legacy, This is where
the mistake happened.  While cutting on the Legacy, the spindle slipped on the
mandrel. ruining the   design that I had planed to make. Luckily for me, the
cuts I made before the slip up happened were light cuts,  I was able to put the
pen and mandrel on the lathe and clean up the bone, getting rid of the mistake.
Over-all I like it,   This will by my first Christmas present that I will
make, to start off the Santa's work shop project list.
I don't know if I will get another chance to work with bone again for a
while? It is rather labor incentive but its a neat meteral to work with, and
the Legacy cuts it very nicely, as long as you use light cuts and use a slow
speed of travel ...
