Re: Newbie

2022-10-18 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
 Hello Everyone.
One word of advice. Look to see what you get/postings of sales,  EXP. this old
1000 mill "Steely" unit. posted earlier.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/473213601346525/?hoisted=false=search_code=null_story_type=post=browse_serp%3A222cdf41-04d6-4b6d-aa26-12b4c5dd0c4f
$1200 .Dose this unit come with all the parts? What is shown is very little,
Yes there is a motor drive and stand, (Both PLUS'S in my book) But you don't
see the drive gears, what gear sets they have, and if there are any extra
parts? This is a very old machine and it doesn't look like its in great
condition.   NOW I'm not saying this is a bad deal, but for the money, It
doesn't look like a Great deal.  Unless you know what you are dealing with,
this machine, Just may be a piece of junk.I have bought two Wood Chuck mills
for basically parts. nether of the machine were useable, there were to many
part missing. Neither of the machine could be used. One seller knew it, and the
other did not. Now back to the $1200. Ouch! that is a lot of money, for a
machine that you can not buy parts for easily, You do not know if it even
works? Now let say this machine came with a 3 horse router, 20 router bits, 4
gear sets ("Yes 4", Standard, .5 gear set, .25 gear reduction, X2 gear set. All
these gear sets were sold at the time of when Phantom/Legacy made this
machine.)  ,and all 7 drive gears. It still may not be the right machine for a
new user? but at least I would know that, there is a possibility that the
person buying it could make something with it.If I were a new user, the other
posting of the 900 might be a better deal. (but that too, did not state a lot.)
More home work would be needed. But at least you know it dose look more useable
in the photo. You can see a
router,https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/803403517658696/?hoisted=false=search_code=null_story_type=post=browse_serp%3A222cdf41-04d6-4b6d-aa26-12b4c5dd0c4f
and it comes with a turn table... and this machine looks newer. (because it
is.) But there are still the same questions that need to be asked... $1000 Is
still a lot of money. You don't want to waist it.
Wow! I did not mean to be so long winded here.(sorry!)  I will just close here
by saying this...  Homework, and a lot of study is always advisable. when
buying something that you see on the web. There could be some good deals out
there, but all to many are just people who are looking to make a buck.  Some
don't know what they have and think it's worth a lot of money, and other are
looking to Just make a sale. despite having nothing but junk. You need to be
careful.Remember the "Motto of the Yankee Trader".  (Buy Beware!)

I typically try to check every week or two as I am still looking myself for

machine prices are way up there or are local pickup only in another part of the

The Model 200 that Curt picked up recently was one of the successful searches

Its always good to post what ever is out there you never know what some in the
group might want

Sometimes 2 people can buy one mill if the price is right and divide up the
extras or parts

And sell anything others might want

Sorry, I guess I am late to the conversation but I can do some searching
tomorrow and send links on the interesting ones.

I typically try to check every week or two as I am still looking myself for
some items ( like a drive notor, vertical vise, and a 4X gear set ) but some
machine prices are way up there or are local pickup only in another part of the
country.

The Model 200 that Curt picked up recently was one of the successful searches
for a reasonable price.

Re: Newbie

2022-10-18 Thread Jeff Richmond
Sorry, I guess I am late to the conversation but I can do some searching
tomorrow and send links on the interesting ones.

I typically try to check every week or two as I am still looking myself for
some items ( like a drive notor, vertical vise, and a 4X gear set ) but some
machine prices are way up there or are local pickup only in another part of the
country.

The Model 200 that Curt picked up recently was one of the successful searches
for a reasonable price.

soon. Then I picked up another one in a bundled equipment purchase. I'm not
sure of model# but the first one I got is about 9 1/2' long with the servo
motors and the other is about 7 1/2' long also with the servo motors. My

2022-10-18 Thread bulkeley
Great,

with legacy mills its all about the extras like 2x and .25 gear sets

Horizontal and vertical vices rotary table, thin stock support ,template
follower, Z axis, rotary indexing shaft, circle cutting centre,

Linear Milling Table, Pilaster Mounting Dogs, Indexing Plates, Design Kit and
so on

The more extras you have the more things the mills can do

As soon as I dig them out of the rat hole I'll post some pics. There's a small

As they were only made for legacy and are no longer made at all. So what ever

And I forgot to say before welcome to our group.

As was said before take pictures of everything you have and we will tell you

To make your mill complete the ornamental mill is capable of many things most
