X4 gear set manufacturing

2022-12-17 Thread Tim Ziegler
Good evening all LOM user's

I recently did a short survey with a handful of members about the X4 gear
set that was once available from Legacy. This system will not ever be
remanufactured by LOM based on a conversation I had with Cindy who is in
charge of any parts they still make for us. I told her I was hoping to get
any information I could and did received some information but not a
complete print to make the actual parts. I also stated I was working on
getting some sets made then and she was fine with that.
I did find a company that is only about 45 minutes from me that would be
willing to make sets of these for us. I however need some measurements to
provide the company who would be willing to manufacture these. All parts
would be laser cut just as LOM does.
So I am looking for someone that would be willing to give some very
accurate measurements and possibly some gear samples if the ones we have on
our newer versions of LOM are not the same. I do think the tooth
configurations would be the same
So I am looking for interested LOM owners to see how many would want to
purchase a set if we can get this off the ground. We would be faced with a
set up charge and development charge, but if we can get enough people
interested the cost for a complete set would be somewhere in the
neighborhood of between $600.00 to $800.00 but possibly cheaper if enough
people are interested.
So does anyone have a set that we could get information from?
Does anyone already have the information and would like to get this project
going? Tim K?

Please let me know and as I hear back from others I will get back to the
company and see by the quantity of people interested whether it's practical
to move ahead.
Also some more experienced LOM owners if you'd like to give a good
description of this gear set and what it will do for others or if it's
worth pursuing that would be great.
Kind Regards,

Timothy J. Ziegler

Hello EricThe Legacy can offer a lot to any wood turner. things like fluting and roping are what the Legacy was designed for.but it can also mortice and add details onto already made spindles almost as easily.the Legacy works more like manual cnc unit. only big difference is that, gears and an acme screw are used for movement instead of a computer and servo motors.I personally like to use the Legacy for detail work on spindles, I use both my lathes (wood and steel) and Legacy together in many projects.  For me its a good marriage of all my tools, The weak spots of one machine are covered by the strong points of the others.Depending on what kind of wood working you like to do, The Legacy comes in a number of different sizes, and depending on the modal you choose, each has into own strong points.  As a General rule of thumb. the older units can be a bit weak on stability, and were made in the mid-set of making spindles. the Newer Legacy are more solidly built, and there design is more like a CNC machine, covering a much wider range of flat as well as spindle types of jobs.As far as INFO.
