Very interesting video for sure thanks for sharing.
I have an attachment that hooks to my duplicator that holds a router and
would follow a template but i have never set it up to do that.

YOU are right Denson.A template on the Legacy could do that same thing very
easily. But for some reason, many of the Legacy users just do not want to use
templates. I have no idea why?
One of our old members,
Ken.https://cheesebrough.com/?fbclid=IwAR22TotKyxb5ELTcPnnqsab0Sugt0cLFNz0Q5GNJm77xB4nWFQEtBumVzLc
Was using the Legacy to make many of his tools, Template and side cutting off
the Legacy.  It was something worth seeing first hand a few years ago.

I am doing some tests for a customer and needed to figure out a way of putting

grooves in at an angle. So I set up my Wood Chuck with the Angle Table and
thought nowhere near perfect here is what I came up with. Using a #40 indexing
plate on a 4.25 diameter piece of Red Oak.

Along with that I used a 3 flute veining style bit.

It does appear that the dogs do not match the old version of the Hub I have on
it. But overall my Customer was excited.

Thoughts feed back?

Rotary cross slide brilliant that exactly the way I would have gone that’s why
we own these right Tim  ,perhaps next time double side tape a spigot and chuck
it instead of the dogs and hub and start in the middle with the groove and go
back and forward might work just a thought .

But you found a use for our rotary cross slides apart from square spirals great
and even so nice job buddy

Mike.A simple way to make your own steady rest is to make the cross members
first. then USING those mounted to the Legacy's rails, you can make your
blocks, By using your tailstock as a reference point, mark the steady blocks so
the center point of the tail stock is the middle of the V/ center of the steady
rest blocks.

Thin Stock support block dimensions

2023-02-13 Thread Mike Newman
Does anyone already have the dimension for the hdpe blocks used on the
factory thin stock support? I finally found a block of the material that I
can make my own, but wanted to get the dimensions. Overall dimensions and
then size/position of the v-notch should be all I need. I will attach it
to my cross member I used for my first trial design. If anyone has one of
the actual factory take a few measurements and post them or email me
direct. I can figure it out if nobody has a factory one, but thought I
would quickly check before I go down that road? thanks

I tested my new dust shields while making a new walking stick today.
Here is what I learned. Dust shields kept 90% of the dust in the bag which
was great. I also tried the rounding method today where you use a handle
on both the x-axis and the spindle for the first time. I had two issues.
the strips that I had hanging down around the walking stick wrapped
themselves around the stick at the thin stock support which raised it up
and created a problem with the rounding. Cut those off and solved that
problem and then found that the sawdust collected on the thin stock
support. The rotational movement of this method allowed the sawdust to
pile up and get pulled behind my stock support which once again raised up
causing an inconsistent rounding. I went back to my original rounding
method of going along the x-axis and everything worked fine again. I now
have a block of hdpe that I bought to make an actual legacy thin stock
support so I may go ahead and build one like that for future use. I was
using a scrap piece of oak hand rail today and really do not like working
with that kind of open grain wood. Alot of sanding afterwards to get a
 smooth surface.

Spent most of the day doing various projects in the shop on and with
the LOM. Started off with making a new carving mallet out of hard rock
maple. This was the first time I used the rails to produce a tapered shape
which worked pretty well. I have a tote full of these chunks that a local
factory was throwing away so I'm always looking for things to make out of
them. After that I wanted to add chip skirts that would hang down on all
4 sides of the router sled to minimize throwing chips outside of the
bed/bag. I found a roll of heavy duty clear vinyl material at my local
salvage store that turned out to be exactly what I needed for this
project. Next I added a simple magnetic tool holder to the lower rail of
my LOM to hold the various items I'm using regularly. Then to finish out
the day I put a length of old oak handrail on the LOM and rounded it off to
make a new walking stick. Here are a few pictures of some of the things.
