Re: Welcome

2023-04-26 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
 Good morning Bill
I was thinking the Metric Acme Screws, the 16-2 would increase the pitch by 1/2
(more of less?)
So using the 5/8-4 as the standard, the 2 and 8 TPI Screws, could be a basic
speed/pitch increaser or de-creaser by 1/2 (+,-) for the Legacy if someone
wanted... I don't plan to try this idea, but its something to think about. ;-)
NOTE: The 5/8-4 acme screw is very hard to find, I cant help but wonder if the
5/8-4 is really a 16-4mm Acme screw???  Knowing this would help people who want
to make there Legacy larger, again at a much lower cost to buy the parts.
Have a Great day.

Hello Dan. (and everyone.) I just got home from work.

I am very happy with the 5/8-8 Acme screw modification for the Legacy. It gave
me what I was looking for/ pitch that I wanted to make.

But having said that, there are a number of other pitches/SCREWS that could
change the Legacy's gearing, if someone wanted to research the possibility's.

To keep things simple we will stay with the 5/8 acme screw size, (comparing
Apples to apples, So to speak.)

You can easily find on the net. Acme screws that are, 10,& 7, TPI as well.(not
counting the 4&8 acme screws TPI that we have all ready talked about.)

"If" you wanted to go with All-thread rod you could have 11 & 18 TPI.

There are also metric, 16mm (which is 5/8") has 2,3,4.pitches in mm.

I'm sure you could come up with some Crazy possible pitches for your machines.

I just wanted to point this out, for anyone who wanted MORE, but did not (or
dose not) have the equipment to make gears/gearing for them self's, This is the
easy way to change your possibility's for different pitches with out making or
buying new gear sets. Its easy and much cheaper way of getting the job done. ;-)

Its time for me to go to bed now. My mine really wanders when I'm tired. ;-p

Have a good day, everyone.

talk to you all more latter.

Welcome aboard TimP.  We have a plethora of Tims just now, so some distinction

I'm just the opposite of  you.  During 65 years of intensive custom
woodworking, I have recently added a fairly complete hobby grade metal working
portion to my shop. Welders, cutting equipment, presses, and most often used a
Smithy Granite with DRO.  It has added an interesting dimension to be able to
fabricate jigs and parts for the rest of the shop. (see picture)

Your generous offer to make split nuts is appreciated.  Some of us have already
made the investment in the tap to make our own, but there are others that will
eventually need them. Curt has moved in the direction of adding pitches by
changing the 4 TPI acme with an 8 TPI acme, which means a different split nut
is needed.  I'm headed that way too so that checkering styles can be easily
added to cylinders.

Keep us up to date with what's going on with lots of pictures.

Pro tip on pictures:  Use the Windows Snipping tool to create a picture JPG
file about 1/10 of the original, and post that.  Quality does not seem to be
negatively affected. (see above).

easy way to change your possibility's for different pitches with out making or
buying new gear sets. Its easy and much cheaper way of getting the job done. ;-)

Its time for me to go to bed now. My mine really wanders when I'm tired. ;-p

Have a good day, everyone.

talk to you all more latter.

Welcome aboard TimP. We have a plethora of Tims just now, so some distinction
will be helpful. I don't even know if TimP is unique!
