OK, that got juices flowing.  Suppose that router was swinging over the
rotary table captive to a link to the frame. Hemispheres could be 
decorated interestingly.  Then glue two of them together for a sphere?

Now that router jig on LOM is almost pure genius.  And deceptively simple!
He has it set to rock the router back and forth by hand.  What if it were

to the frame which could use the lead screw to "rock" it back and forth?

approximated by eye and paper template.  The rest was REVO work with 
six starts on a 7/8" dia shaft using a 1" rope cutter at 1/8" deep.
