Off the top of my head I cant remember why I used those gears, It may be the spacing? I do remember making a combo that worked well , but it would not mate up to some of the smaller drive gears. I have one picture of the first duplex gear that I made, I pinned the two gears together. in the picture I used one Large gear to keep the drive gear in place, the dive gear that you see is being used as a large washer, its not realy doing anything except to keep the gears in alignment. If I remember correctly that gear was 120-60, but I realy don't remember. ( I no-longer have the gear set in the picture, I took it apart a long time ago.) The flipped arm? Humm? I just might play with that. dose the gearing get in the way of the carriage's travel?( when the carriage is near the head stock?) This is a neat and simple idea. I just might play with it, I mean it only would take a second to switch that arm. Why not try? I have to go. have a good day. I need to re-make my gear seting, but basically what Tim said is correct, Its a set of gears that sit on a common center. The gear set is connected between the drive gear and duplex gear.(in place of the directional gear set.) I have one picture on file, but it dose not show a lot, the gears need to be put in a housing so that they don't slide off and dis-engage. Here is one pix. Tomorrow I will take the time and go out and take more pictures if anyone is interested. Until then. have a good night.
