I wonder how many LOMs were sold in Alaska.  Probably about as many as sold

Dustin (and all others),

Back when we had the "Map of LOM Owners" available to access after we logged in
to our Legacy Mill Google Group, we could see "map pins" placed wherever there
was a LOM owner that opted to be placed on the map. If I recall, when you
cursored over one of the pins, you would see the "name" of the LOM owner and
the "city" they associated with. In your case, Dustin, the "name" associated
with the pin most likely would have been "Chainlink" (unless you decided to
have it display Dustin).

As for the "city" - I'll use Tim Ziegler as an example. He lives in Foreston,
MN.
The nearest "big city" is St Cloud. So he might opt to have his "city"
listed/displayed as St Cloud.

If there is another LOM owner within a reasonable driving distance of that pin
in St Cloud, and they wanted to link/meet up with a fellow LOM owner, they
could contact Tim via an email on this board. If Tim were interested in a meet
up, he would reply back and they could exchange info to make the meet up happen.

With that pin map, there was very little info displayed. I doubt that there
was enough there for any "data farmer" to waste their time with. If your map
pin had a lot of info posted/associated with it - it was because YOU opted to
display it there.

I remember when I first got my LOM, I checked the pin map and found there were
no owners nearby - but there were a couple within about a 2-3 hour drive.

By the way, one additional bit of useful info that was tied to the pin was the
model of the LOM you owned.
Again, what data farmer is going to waste their time/effort with that info?
I'll bet there is more "useful info" in your recycle bin and trash can that you
and your neighbors put out each week.

Just my 3 cents' worth.

Perhaps "Master Craftsman" Tim Krause will chime in soon and give us "The rest
of the Story" as Paul Harvey used to say.

Wishing all of ya'll a safe, healthy, and Fun-filled weekend!

Hello All,

I’ve been absent for this entire subject. It seems when either Curt or Myself
take a leave of the list, things finally get exciting. So I’m back and can
answer the big questions. Yes there was a map that allowed members to post as
much information that I would allow with a reasonable level of security. There
was no password or usernames involved. I did see every new posts and I had to
remove people from the group because they abused the system. This all worked
from a “hidden” link that was posted at the top of the messages in the group.

Let me say that the map will be back relatively soon. It will be behind a
membership/password system that will be needed and you must be a member of this
group to enter the area. I’m still working on the entire solution but it’s
close enough to admit it’s coming.

Before this happens, why not share your location in the end of your email and
the equipment that you have. It’s called a tag line.

I hope that helps and if anyone has any comments on the matter can reach me via

Dustin (and all others),

Back when we had the "Map of LOM Owners" available to access after we logged in
to our Legacy Mill Google Group, we could see "map pins" placed wherever there
was a LOM owner that opted to be placed on the map. If I recall, when you

the "city" they associated with. In your case, Dustin, the "name" associated
with the pin most likely would have been "Chainlink" (unless you decided to

Re: Master Membership List

2020-07-24 Thread 'joe biunno' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
this is all getting a lot more complicated than it has to be... if any
member has a question about their Legacy, they can simply post it on the
groups forum page and they will get the benefit of everyone's expertise,
which is exactly what this group is there for... if that same person would
like some hands on consultation by a person who might be located near them,
then they can simply post in the group if anyone would be interested in
helping them in person... they would post their location and wait for a
response... if no one responds then that is that... a lot of people might
consider it awkward and might feel pressured if contacted and asked for a
personal lesson of the use of the Legacy... and lets face facts, there are
a lot of legacy owners who rarely have used their machine to the point that
they would be capable of giving instruction... so many times I have seen
ads selling a Legacy machine, with a byline that says "used for one job
only"... the best source of knowledge on the using and modifying a Legacy
are the dedicated people in this Legacy group... just post the questions
here is the best solution anyone could ask for... just my opinion... Joe B.

I'm not sure giving out full contact information is such a good idea in
2020. I've had credit card fraud happen to me three times now, and I don't
feel comfortable making it any easier. Posting my address here is not going
to happen, so what I would suggest is that we need another way.

Hi All

I know it has been the policy that there is not a master list available to all
and there are several good reasons for that to be the case.

However there are also several good reasons for such a list to be available.
Perhaps a viable solution would be if such a list were on a voluntary basis

thus allowing LOM owners to choose to participate without imposing on anyone
choosing to not participate. I realize it is easy to make suggestions for

someone else to implement and if anyone actually does the work to create a
voluntary list I appreciate the effort and thank them very much.

It does seem a shame that two or three owners could live closeby or within an
easy commute and not even know that the others exist.

Thanks also to all of the people who take the time to share and keep the
thread going. Ornamental Turners International (the Holtz, Bower, Evans

& Goya people have long had such a published list and I've never heard a member
complain.

Cheers Tom DottaHollister Calif.

RE: Master Membership List

2020-07-23 Thread bulkeley
Due to privacy reasons I would think a list of members could not be given out.
making your own list from members answering your post I would think would be
the only way to have one. Just my opinion

I've looked as best I can thru this site but seem to not have gotten at least a
part of this thread that some folks seem to be answering re: a master list of
members. What is it that people are responding to in identifying where they
are located and is there now or is there going to be some sort of master list
of members?

Thanks

RE: Master Membership List

2020-07-23 Thread Michael Kratky
The AAW (American Association of Woodturners) as far back as I can remember
publishes a detailed list of all its members with membership renewal which is
also accessible on line with a member ID and password.

2020-07-23 Thread Ray Leaman
I've looked as best I can thru this site but seem to not have gotten at
least a part of this thread that some folks seem to be answering re: a
master list of members. What is it that people are responding to in
identifying where they are located and is there now or is there going to be
some sort of master list of members?

Thanks
