2010-12-13 Thread Craig Turner
Hey Bill,

Try Rockler.

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=22447filter=sanding%20mop

Woodcraft used to seel them until recently but I don't think they
stock them anymore. I got them shipped to Ireland without issues.

Best regards
Craig

http://www.woodworkingshop.com

and

http://woodworker.com carry them. I would prefer using the Gold Klingspor
version if I had my choice. The prices seem to be the same no matter where
you go. I don't know if they ship overseas.

2009-10-15 Thread MACSWAG TAE

MAC.

I have a small lathe which I use for sanding the twists and ropes
among others
I use the sanding strips from Axminster tools.four grades to a box of
rolls,I find that they curve into the work and make a very good job of
tight groves and twists,I'm not overly struck with the sanding mops,

Re: sanding mops

2009-10-13 Thread curt george

Hello Bill
Its not the same. but if you look at Art's web page. (www.turnaround.org )
Both Mike P. and I both have some pix's on this topic.
Between you and I, the sand mop works OK, but I find the best way to sand
spindles is on my lathe. (even roped or barley twist turnings sand great on
the lathe.once you get the feel of it).And sanding this on the Lathe is much
faster than using the sand mop for most spindles.
If you don't own a lathe, I would suggest to start looking for a real cheap
one just for sanding.(I've seen ones on Crag's list and E-bay for sale,
almost nothing.)
And Or if not, perhaps you could connect a motor to your head stock on your
Legacy for sanding? (that's if your unit has ball bearings in the head
stock?)

Its time for me to go to work.

Please let us know how everything works out?
Good luck! and have a great day.

This is probably a old topic but not for me. sanding mops I was
watching a legacy demo I cant remember which one off hand and they
were using the sanding mop for finishing in the router has any one
tried that. it seems way too fast even on the routers slowest speed I
tried a quick rub on a piece of pine and it was so fast it left black
marks. how do all you guys feel about it. I see on .turningaround.org
he used a motor like a washing machine motor mounted on the saddle..
I guess what im asking is what is the speed range to run a 6 inch
sanding mop and what do all you guys use some how running a sanding
mop along the same pitch setting on the machine seems a good idea to
me especially if its a long job.

Re: sanding mops

2009-10-13 Thread Bill Bulkeley

I do have a lathe and I have sanded some legacy work on it and I also have a
sanding mop on a 8 inch bench grinder and I take the work to it but now I
have a 900 as well as a revo and I have extended the 900 another 3 feet the
jobs are getting too big to hold up to the bench mop and too long for my
lathe. so on the bigger longer work I might go the same path as Art's web
page.and make a attachable motor with a mop
also im assuming that legacy's router.spindle runs slow like 3000 rpm which
is why they can use a mop in the machine without leaving black marks. as
always im just curious to see what all you guys do to get your jobs sanded
especially barley twists I would have thought spinning in the wood lathe
with sand paper would not get in the grooves of the twist very well which is
why I thought mounted sanding mop
